Step 1) Take the cage off of the horns (without stripping the nuts)
Step 1.25) Call Noah
Step 1.5) Go to hardware store (try not to get arrested for driving recklessly over bumps) and make everyone think we are broken down b/c car hood is open in parking lot
Step 1.6) Call Noah
Step 1.75) Buy all sorts of tools b/c we are stubborn and refuse to let boys help us
Step 1.9) Convince one of the guys who thought we were broken down that it's not "the boyfriend's car"
Step 2) Sand cage
Step 3) Spray Paint

i have to pull apart the wiring for my hellas and possibly redo it.

The stock horns honk just fine, but sometimes the supertones don't honk at all! it makes me sad because they're great for scaring the shit out of pedestrians and people on bikes. :p

Can someone post up the wiring diagram again? I have it somewhere at home, but it's probably lost in my images folder.

The Hella's look like terminators (I'll be back!)

lolol I just look at it and see pictures of emoticons.

Yeah, I def think I need a pair of these most definitely.

nice write-up. is there a definite difference in sound b/w the stock horn and the supertones? i am on the verge of convincing myself to get these "for safety reasons" (makes me feel better since the true reason i'm interested is b/c they look awesome).

Absolutely a difference. We both had our stock horns still wired. I recently traded my stock horns for another set of hellas. Haven't had the chance to see if they work yet though.

I beeped at someone on the highway once for cutting me off and almost causing an accident. They swerved b/c they were so scared by the horn. Gave me a good chuckle.

Nice wright up! But I don't think I'll be calling Noah haha. I wanna get some, where did you get the pink paint? Just an auto parts store?

Well, we used 2-3 different pink paints to get that color. No order just sprayed the different colors until it came out okay. I recently bought Krylon H2O Latex in Rhine River Rose and I like it. The only think I've used it alone on is my hazard button. We'll see how it looks on my wheels!

SubiMods also sells the Supertones with your choice of powdercoat. I went with the AD Motorsports set up and am pretty happy. Literally took me 15-20 minutes. Most of that time spent fiddling with the routing of wiring and taking off my center grille piece :)

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4429138869_79e26e5cf2.jpg

i was going for the subtle look (figured the skull-destroying sound would take care of the rest), so i went with dark blue. they are actually less obvious than in these pics due to the flash here, and look really nice under the black mesh grill.

i used them the other day on a cab driver who just decided to park in the street, apparently not caring about the 5 cars behind him. after hearing the supertones, he got out of the way pretty quickly. he also stuck his head out of the window with WTF all over his face

the horns are VERY LOUD. do not accidentally hit the panic button!

Thanks Christine. That's pretty badass. I didn't know you could do a switch. Here's my question though, can you set it up to use BOTH horns at the same time instead of one or the other?

RagDoll
03-19-2010, 12:23 PM
^You mean both the factories & Hellas combined? That's a good question! You probably can; though I'm not sure.

The first switch position is stock, the middle is no horns at all, and the 3rd is Hella. (That's my current setup)

I think there is a way to allow one of the positions to activate all 4 horns; just involves some extra wiring I think. :)

Maybe I'll try it!!

xxthat girlxx
03-19-2010, 05:39 PM
When I set up my horns I had both stock and both Hellas set up. Then I gave away my stock horns for another set of Hellas and I miss the having both horns. I need to see if the hellas I swapped my stocks for work.

I haven't seen a write up yet on this, so I thought I would go ahead and make one for the people who haven't done this mod yet and would like to (It's very simple BTW) ;)

Step One- Remove grill

Step Two- Remove all screws from horn covers and set aside

Step Three- Remove covers (Mine were painted black by the previous owner)
http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/226306_1794604784895_1232966391_31839174_2161908_n .jpg?dl=1

Step Four- (If already painted) Sand the paint off
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/217023_1794605264907_1232966391_31839176_1539745_n .jpg?dl=1

Step Five- Place covers on cardboard or newspaper in a safe area to where the paint wont get on anything else (I did mine outside in the grass on the side of the house)

Step Six- Spray 2-3 coats of primer (I used white, but other colors are fine)
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/222699_1794605384910_1232966391_31839177_4378530_n .jpg?dl=1

Step Seven- Spray 2-3 color coats (I used purple :) )
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/230190_1794604984900_1232966391_31839175_3237318_n .jpg?dl=1

Step Eight- Apply 1-2 coats of clear coat

Step Nine- Let dry for about an hour

Step Ten- Place covers back on horns and replace all screws

Step Eleven- Replace grill
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/227684_1794605544914_1232966391_31839178_2684170_n .jpg

Step Twelve- Step back and admire your "hard" work ;)

I hope this helps any prospective hella painters out there!

Haha nice ya lucky you with the red :P

And it really is one of the easiest mods EVAR!! I actually also repainted the underside of my hoop scoop the same color. It was red from the previous owner :) I tried to take a pic from the front but its been a little gloomy here lately so the pic was too dark boooo

Hey Joslin Rae, we do have a thread. I have merged the. But seems like our original pics are missing. :( I'll see if I can get that fixed.

so for you ladies with 06-07's, did you buy the custom mounting bracket, fabricate your own, or use the OEM mounting places?

I don't have an 06-07 but I used OEM mounting on my 10. I don't recommend this!! What a pain in the butt, because the radiator is in the way of getting anything behind the bracket to secure the nut on the left side! So with a nut taped in a wrench somehow..someway I got it but they are a little crooked which makes me :unamused:

I ordered the bracket so I can fix them and then I'm going to change my accent color from pink.

Christine, we attached them to the radiator support which allowed the hellas to be more centered. We did not need a bracket for install because they came with metal tabs that we bolted to the radiator support

Core support ftw. Even has holes. You need some 1/4-20x3/4" bolts, nuts and washers (or M6x1.0x30mm)

we used the little crappy metal brackets they gave us, and used the holes that were there - they are centered it was just hard to get the wrench in between the radiator and the bracket..not much room

If you use a flanged nut you can put the nut in a box end wrench.

Or my secret is using a metal speednut..looks like the clips Rally Armor gives you, but in metal.
