I guess I should start up a journal for my car here since Tina has one too. We sold her 99 OBS about a month ago and she got my WRX and I picked up a 1995 Legacy. I mostly just drive to work so I didn't need the WRX, something cheaper and slower would work out just fine.

I was able to find a 95 5spd Legacy sedan for pretty cheap. I was able to get him down a little more since it needed a new window regulator and some AC components. So far here is the list of modifications I have done, most were just things that needed to be done for reliability.

-Replaced the broken drivers side window regulator.
-Replaced the $10 piece of crap CD player.
-Replaced the totally blown stock struts with 06 WRX struts and 05 WRX springs.
-Removed about 3miles of sketchy wiring from the previous owners attempts at installing a stereo and fog lights.
-New spark plugs, wires, air filter and oil change.
-Kartboy front and rear shifter bushings and an aluminum shift knob.
-Painted the chipped up fake chrome grill.
-Installed supertones
-Installed a stock STi battery (friend had one sitting in the garage and I didn't know how old the one in the car was)
-Replaced the 14" steelies with sketchy tires with 15s with brand new tires.
-Ran wiring for a 4 channel amp and a sub in the trunk. I still need to finish up all of the wiring to the harness.

That is all I can think of right now. I will be swapping out the rear drum brakes for 00 RS discs this friday. I will also be replacing the gear oil in the tranny since it is grinding, hopfully new oil will help a little.

I will try to get around to uploading some pictures but most of them were taken with my phone so they aren't too good.

I need to get some better pictures of it soon but I don't usually have time when it is light out. Maybe I will get Tina to take some for me.

thx for the pics! it is always refreshing to see more normal cars to go along with the uber-modified newer cars too.

is that a wanna-be turbo not hooked up in the front passenger side area of the engine compartment?

Nick

Nope, that is a real turbo not hooked up ;) we were talking about how much empty space there is since there is no turbo, ABS or intercooler and my friend put a spare turbo there.

A Ruby Mica Legacy "L" ?

Awesome car.

I love the projector Fogs, although that JDM "L/7" grill could use a bit of work.
It looks like you have the two piece headlight / front turn signals from a 97+ Legacy. Perhaps the grill and the lights were replaced as a result of a minor accident ?

In addition to rear disc brakes, the front brakes maybe could be upgraded to dual-piston '00 RS front calipers, rotors, and caliper brackets (same as the 1st gen Outback or Legacy GT).

Nick

It is an L since it has the 2.2. It was in a front end accident before I bought it. I sanded and painted the grill recently you can kind of see it in one of the after pics.

I am planning to do a wrx brake swap when I pick up some larger wheels and doing an H6 rear brake conversion as well.

The WRX brakes require 16 Inch or larger wheels. I personally *think* you are much better of sticking with 98-01 Impreza RS / 96-99 Legacy GT brakes that only require 15 inch wheels. I think the older style Legacy brake master cylinders can only cope with so much braking capacity. If you do indeed choose to go the WRX route you may want to spring for a larger capacity brake master cylinder.

Also as so many high-performance aftermarket parts suppliers have ditched their inventory of 95-99 Legacy parts, you may want to go for 2002-2003 WRX strut and springs (that will fit the Legacy as long as you swap the entire strut/spring assembly).

Again, I am very much a fan of the second generation Legacy, and I love that Mica Ruby paint colour. Good luck with your car.

RS brakes only fit under some 15" wheels. The steelies I had on do not clear them. I picked up a set of 17" WRX wheels tonight for a great price so brake clearance is not a problem unless I pick up some Brembos.

I already have struts off of an 06 WRX and springs off of an 05 WRX. You can't just throw in the impreza suspension. The front is fine but the bolt spacing for the rear top hat is different so you need to use a Legacy tophat.

So far including the price of the car, new plugs, wires, struts, springs, shifter bushings, rear disc conversion and two sets of wheels I am under $2,500. So I am feeling pretty good about my low cost daily project.

My friend Ryan and I pulled all of this out of the legacy.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll71/NickANDTina/Legacy/IMG00179-20101029-2335.jpg

And then put all of this in to replace it.

You didn't really have any pics of the interior before it was in a huge pile... but it seems to be a good improvement! And wahoo for silver monies!!

Nick

Yeah, I am really bad about taking pictures while I work. And the interior was so ugly I was avoiding taking pictures of it :)

Hopefully I will get a lot done on the legacy in the next few weeks. Tina and Matthew are out of town so I will not only have a little more free time but also have two cars so I can rip apart the Legacy and still have one to drive to work.

Tomorrow I will be pulling out the center console and trimming an 02 WRX console to fit. Pulling my grille to repaint and fix the spots I missed last time. Finally hooking up my amp and redoing my crossovers and tweeters in the rear.

Next week I will be picking up the last piece I need to switch my shift linkage over to a WRX linkage. I will also be installing a Perrin adjustable short shifter at the same time. At some point I will also be getting rid of the pinstripe down the side and giving the car a good detail and clean 15 years worth of dirt and grime out of the engine bay.

I will try to get some pictures as I go but I am not all that good at doing that so we will see what happens.

I got most of the work done to swap my 02 WRX center console into my car. I need to trim down the plastic trim that goes around the shifter but then it should be all good. I ended up cutting off little too much and there is a gap where it meets the dash but you don't really see it unless your head is down by the floor.

I am getting a 'new' engine, front axles, whiteline steering rack bushings and maybe new rack boots too this weekend. I will try to take some pictures this time but I think Tina will be there too so she can take pictures of us ripping my car apart... again.

I replaced a front axle, both steering rack boots, installed whiteline rack bushings and installed an STi 6spd tranny mount.

I just tossed some roof racks on so that I can take bikes and people with my car.

I was going to try to get my center console finished before Big NW meet but I don't think I will have time. I am going to be busy getting some stuff done on the WRX instead since it will be at the SubieGirls tent.

Yeah, I took out the old one with ticking heads and 195k on it and replaced it with one that had about 50k on it.
