Anyone have any pictures or suggestions on any brand or size of an in dash dvd player for an 04 subaru wrx.. Pictures would be the best. I'm looking at buying my husband one for his birthday and am just trying to decide what brand and size to get that will best fit the car.

Look into the pioneer AVIC Z lines, double din to cover up that void that's usually left by a single din. Im steering you towards pioneer or kenwood. Both have great ability to tweek with perameters w/ o needing RO a pro sound tech. Check em out! Either way what ever you get him he'll love it!

This, I have a pioneer AVIC and it is awesome. The good thing about the one I have is that it will play your ipod and you use the radio interface to control it, as opposed to using the ipod while driving. When I get home I will try to post a pic of it installed. It's a really straight forward install, super easy.

I have AVIC's in my Ranger and STi... here is the main question what are you looking to spend? Because the unit im recomending is a bit pricey. Let us know what your budget it is.

I HIGHLY recommend Kenwood over Pioneer. I used to work at Best Buy. Every time a co-worker bought a Pioneer, they eventually got jealous of someone else's Kenwood. They'd sell it and buy it. I'd say my in dash is in at least 4 or 5 WRXs in town. Standard double din fits fine assuming you have a bugeye. If you give me a few minutes (cooking food atm), I'll run out to the car and snap a few photos.

Edit: Scratch that. Im an idiot and forgot I've been using my Outback as my DD. The WRX is garaged at home. I'll stop by tomorrow. Sadly, I didn't realize until I had camera in hand walking out into the cold, and I'm sure I had a really confused look on my face seeing the Outback instead of the WRX in the parking spot.

I would highly recommend the Pioneer AVIC Z3 if you can find on for sale somewhere, nice looking, easy to use and in my opinion the nicer looking in dash, plus it has 30gb built in memory so no reading maps off a dvd, but it is also a built in dvd player :)

Ill take a pic on my break and post it

Yep here ya go... Mines the pioneer AVIC-U310BT. That one doesn't have the DVD feature, but the next step up does. It has an Ipod interface that connects to your IPOD using the normal apple USB cable. The Ipod is controlled through the radio, so no fiddling with the Ipod while driving. It ships with a USB extension, so you can hook it up anywhere. No DVD for navi, everything is stored internally, but it has a detachable face so you can take it inside, hook it up to your computer and update it. It has bluetooth and hands free calling. It's pretty awesome.

Go to www.crutchfield.com and look at what they have. Their business is first-rate. Free tech support and free instructions on how to take apart your car and install all the parts. And they aren't crappy instructions but actual, honest to goodness, subaru instructions.

I'll try to get some pictures of the rest of the setup tomorrow with an actual camera, not a phone.

That's the newer model of what I have. When I get back in town, I'll run by and get pics and/or vids. What do you want to see? I got the nav, bought the sat radio, and ipod cable for it.

Ignore the poor looking screen quality. It looks crystal clear in person. My camera just had a hard time taking the pictures free handed with no flash in the dark.

Complaints: if you're used to radios with buttons, it takes a while to get used to using a touch screen since you can't blindly feel for the button to skip a song or change a station.

Tips/cool stuff: If you throw a bunch of songs on a USB, it will play them. It'll even play big USB hard drives. However, the larger the drive/more junk on the drive, the slower it takes to load. It needs to load all the songs on one playlist before it will allow you to start music.

It will NOT play MOST video formats that you download from the web. Only a select few. BUT. If you're on a long road trip and you have one of those Western Digital media players, you can get a cheap component to 2.5mm jack and play it thru the Video input. They try to get you to buy theirs but all they did was swap the colors so just try the 9 possible combinations til it works. Add a 12v cigarette outlet adapter to the media player, big USBhard drive, and you have yourself access to an easy way to play video files on your in-dash.

Ipod out of sight in my glove box. Also works with the new iphones. Downside like most aftermarket head units, the ipod cable is seperate.

If you press the FNC button while in Nav, it will bring up options to skip your song or if on the radio, to change stations

245

Works vise versa. It ill give you directions on the bottom green bar. Just touch the green bar to reverse screens

247

Sirius Sat Radio. All extra. You have to buy the Kenwood adapter AND the Sirius brain.

Again, I apologize the screens look like crap, but they don't in person. Just let me know if you want me to photograph/video anything else.

That helped soo much. I think that is definitely what i am going to get him... I have a couple questions... did you have the stock radio in yours when you got the car? Did you install this yourself if so? Also, do you have a gap above or underneath the screen??

Bought the car new, so yes, factory radio was in it. Installed the Kenwood myself while I was an Installer at Best Buy. But my 1st head-unit, an Alpine, I did myself before doing it as a job. I guess you can't tell from the photos, but there are no gaps. Looks "stock" as can be.

If you don't have a system in your car and are keeping the rest of it factory, it's fairly straight forward. Mine is a wiring maze back there with all those extra modules, wires running to and from the amplifier, sat antenna wires here and there (1 for Sirius and 1 for GPS), and not to mention my security/rms stuff all in there too.

Yes, fits fine. You may have to do some fine adjustment to make sure it's centered in the hole before putting the trim back on. All you do is loosen the screws and hold it flush when you re-tighten them, but I'm pretty OCD. I'm taking about a millimeter off when I did mine. You won't have to use the cage it comes with. You'll just reuse the brackets from your factory radio. You'll need a wiring harnass, no dash kit needed, and you may need to drill a hole about the size of your thumb in your glove box to run the USB cable. You don't have to, but I disliked the way the wire laid in the glovebox ran under and over the top.

If you get the Garmin equipped one, you can mount it under the clock for a cleaner install. Also less wire to run/hide. GPS signal is significantly stronger than sat radio. You can stick the metal pad it comes with above the vent tubes and stick the antenna on top of that.

Sweet a wiring harness was my next question. His birthday isn't till feb. 21 but i will definitely post pics once it is in and installed. Thanks so much.
