I know it is still early, but to make sure all interested can make time for that so I decided to post that now.
You may have seen on the website that last year, a numbers of the subie girls (and some supporters!) did participate in the making stride against breast cancer in Boston. I think it could be a good idea to it again this year. This event takes place all over the US, and there is very likely one next to where you live.
(check here (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PAR/PAR_2_Making_Strides_Against_Breast_Cancer.asp))
What a better way to all unite in a fight close to all of us?
let me know who would be interested so we can try to coordinate, maybe have T-shirts like last year?
I would def be willing to go. Have you guys set up a subiegirls team? That would be a great idea, could be a good start at making subiegirls known within a wider range of people too!

We were Scoobies for Boobies :D
Ya I had heard of that team last year. They don't have you on their list of teams! :( BOoooooo!! LoL Well Lets get some more people together on the team and Lets do it! Im sure I could raise a good chunk of change at the office where I work! :) Let me know how it works, where to start etc...

Thanks for starting this Frenchie. I have good and maybe bad news. Good news is, we are ABSOLUTELY doing fundraising again under the fundraiser Scoobies for Boobies. Bad news OR good news is, we're thinking of making it its own fundraiser. Which is what the original plan is.
The American Cancer Society has a section called Team ACS that allows people to form their own team and fundraise for a cause. Personally, I would like this event/fundraiser to be recognized outside of the tent Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
If you are all interested, we can plan a meeting for very soon to discuss our options and start the planning.
So are you planning to fundraise for this same cause, and if not whats the cause and who would the donations go to exactly? Whats the general idea you have in mind?

Scoobies for Boobies will be for the same cause. It will be in the month of October (national breast cancer awareness month) to raise money for breast cancer. Instead of forming a team under Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, we can have our own "team" which people can raise money for, donate to, etc. and it will be recognized as its own entity, not as part of making strides against breast cancer.
Here is the ASC website for 48 Hours of Tri State (http://main.acsevents.org/goto/48hrs). They have created their own fundraising event and it has become very successful. This is what I would like to do for Scoobies for Boobies.

Here's something I think could be a great fundraiser: Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament
I found this company in Boston (http://www.bostoncharitypoker.com/home) that runs this style event (although I'm sure we could find other companies that do the same). Here's some things that we could do as part of this event:
-Charge an upfront entry that covers the event and raises money
-Ask for car part/service donations and have a raffle
-Look for "celebrity dealers" (if we start begging/pulling strings now we COULD get lucky with at least one big/well known rally driver) that will pull a crowd
-Subie Girls could be "cocktail waitresses" at the event and donate all tips
-Win a date with Subie Girls Raffle (this has been previously discussed and can also be done outside of the event as well to raise more moolah) Cliffnotes: If 5 girls volunteer to have dinner, there will be 5 winners (you get the drift). The winners will have their meal covered up to $X and it does not include alcoholic beverages. It's not really a DATE, just a way for some guys/gals to get to know some cool subie girls in a more fun way.
About the drive, sounds fun but thats a no go for me considering I have a 10 month old at home. I wouldnt neccessarily want to raise money for an event I can't be a part of you know. About the Poker tournament idea, sounds good depending on what the past success rate is looking like.

I love the idea, it sounds like a REAL lot to be done before october, i think that this may take longer to arrange and get done right but might be a great idea for 2010.
I also think that walking with Strides makes it easy for the whole US -widespread subiegirls- to get involved no matter where they live.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but maybe we can couple the two ideas by walking on the day of the strides, for the sake of it, but raising money for scoobies for boobies.

Yes it does, the sooner probably the better, october is going to be here really soon and we all know how hard it is to coordinate our schedules. Maybe we could also use skype so that everybody can participate.

This might have to be on a week night or a Sunday night actually. Weekends are looking crazy with car stuff so we need to make sure we get a good meeting in.

maybe we can do a fund raiser like the first saturday of october then donate the proceeds to the american cancer society as a team organization in addition to everyone walking in the designated portion of the US :)
a thursday works for mee...

Right. The point of making the event under the umbrella "team acs" is that people for all over can join and not have to feel tied down to the walk. Fundraise how they'd like with events they choose
Have you ladies done a subiegirl car wash to raise money yet? Nows the season!! Or how about hosting a subiegirls car show. I know last year or the year before (cant remember) JV entertainment (club promoters in Worc) Hosted a car show in the parking lot behind what used to be Voodoo, It was a huge sucess. I think this would be a great idea. I am going to call the city managers office to find out what the steps are to have something like this coordinated. If there are any costs, etc. I can also talk to the promoters to see how they got it together. Would you be interested in doing an event like this if the costs arent much? You could bring the dunk tank!!! lol
I kno its a lot of work but it would be worth it. Promotion of the event would be probably the biggest cost. I found out that if we do it on private land all we need is permit from the land owner; If there are going to be vendors then we would need permits from the city, Im still waiting for a call back to find out how much that is.
And if its too late then why dont we start planning one for next summer?

me in a bathing suit, traipsing around showing off the goods?
hmm lemme think.
:(

It might be better planned for next summer? But yeah, I don't do bathingsuits. It was enough I wore one a WBM. Car show is fun, but I don't think we have enough participation from Subie Girls just yet. Maybe doing an all female car/motorcycle show to showcase female enthusiasts? There are quite a car groups with female envolvement. I'd be interested in this as well.

And maybe this could be planned for early fall? But then Scoobies for Boobies would be hectic. Ummm... late spring?
Ya Late Spring sounds like a good time, Hopefully it wont be as crappy as this years!! So I will look into how to get the permits and all that. A "business plan" should be made up to keep everything organized. That way everything can be tracked and kept in order.
My question is. who is going to be responsible for any pre-event expenses that are going to arise? This will prob be the biggest issue. Would you like to have all subiegirls who are going to volunteer for this event split expenses evenly, and if so is the money going to be reinbursed after the money is made back from the event? I kno its gonna be hard for one or two people alone to come out of pocket.
Also, what charity are we raising money for. this is a big part of the promotion stage.
Is anyone friends w/ any promoters in the area that could help us out?
And how about a car wash? this can be done within the next month? Anyone down?

What is going on w/ Scoobies for Boobies? Are you all doing the walk? Or the drive?

I have a few fundraisers up my sleeve for Scoobies for Boobies. Not sure if I want to do that walk.
And I think we need to raise money for ourselves as an organization. Lots of non-profits I've been in do it. You have to raise money for yourselves as an organization. I think that's what we should do with the car show. Let's wait until the fall/winter to discuss the car how unless something big comes up like a big sponsor or vendor.

Just keep in mind you want to have the car show completely organized and set up two months before the marketing starts. Things can change last minute and you dont want that to happen after the marketing starts. Meaning everything needs to be good to go by then. It is going to be alot of work, so planning ahead and starting to speak with vendors and other ways to bring in money need to be handled months before. If you want a good show and alot of people, its not gonna be cheap. Heres a link to the citys special events permits charges....
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://velvetstrawberries.typepad.com/andreasingarella/images/2007/06/28/diaper_cake.jpg&imgrefurl=http://velvetstrawberries.typepad.com/andreasingarella/2007/06/a-baby-shower.html&usg=__KQABb4SZdRejPMYthOJnWYxENWc=&h=525&w=375&sz=300&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=TSz7cFzKJk7N2M:&tbnh=132&tbnw=94&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddiaper%2Bcake%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfi refox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG%26um%3D1
and this is just to be able to have this stuff at the show. It can take them months just to approve it alone. Then you have to organize food/beverage and other vendors, you dont want to wait last minute to organize this. You have to purchase trophys, prizes, raffle items, porta pottys, DJ (unless vendors will offer for free) Trash bins, etc.....
Speaking with the promoter who did the last car show/ block party, he said it took him almost a year to plan everything, so just keep that in mind, If your looking to do this for late spring you should start planning within the next few months...And you want to raise non-profits asap, cuz your gonna need it for this if you want a good show, not a measly crappy shows like the ones they throw at hurricane bettys or platinum premier every year.

I have just had some personal things come up so Tuesday night is iffy for me. If the dinner or meeting is in Worcester at 7pm, then I can make it just a little late.
Margo has offered to organize the troops until I'm able to make it. We can have the meeting at my apt. and get some kind of take-out or we can have it at a restaurant which ever.
Let me know what you'd like to do and who can make it. We need to get the ball rolling.

I am good for tuesday, 7 might be a little bit early for me as I have to drive for an hour to get there. I am for a take out, so we are in a quiet place, work more efficiently and can let Sarah sleep early enough.
what do you think? Pizza? chinese food?
