Guinness Book of World Records was supposed to be at WBM. They didn't understand what a "meet" is. Margo would better answer this b/c of her part of the WBM committee but I believe they asked if it was a parade a bunch of times.
I agree that if they had something about a "meet" or gathering, we'd kick butt.

I thought that Subie Fest was larger? Eh, I guess I was wrong.

Nope, SubieFest doesn't have concrete numbers.
And also, we (WBM planning committee) contacted Guinness repeatedly, and there was a significant cost involved that we did not feel comfortable in passing on to the attendees (you guys).
We are planning things for next year to make WBM even larger and be able to produce the numbers necessary to wipe the floor with any other Subie meet. :)
Well if they want to get technical and want a parade I think that could be arranged at the end of the meet, have everyone drive around the mountain and there is their parade lol!
About the entry fee, How large is it? Is is something that could be charged like $2 per attendee on top of the ticket price? Im sure people would be willing to pay if they knew what it was for.
We gotta wipe them off the map!! lol

I'm pretty sure they said in the NESIC thread that the cost to get the Guinness folks out there was $500, and they couldn't squeeze it into the budget. It would have been what, an extra $.50 per ticket? They were already expensive enough this year...

No no, add another 0 to that 500. It was an extra $5000 before travel and lodging, etc. from what I remember. It just wasnt going to be feasible since it would have had to be charged up front months in advance of the event.
OMG thats ridiculous! Just for an entry to the guinness book? Wow What a rip off! Well whos the richest subie owner you know? Maybe we should ask that person to donate for next yr ;)

buahahha - yeah we can put their car right in front for the picture.
So yeah, I hope you see that we do try to make the event great, but obviously sometimes money gets in the way :(

The record for the largest parade of Subaru cars was achieved by Subaru of America, Inc., Great Lakes Region, in partnership with the Village of Itasca, at 500 Park Boulevard in Itasca, Illinois, USA, on 11 July 2009. This record was confirmed by Guinness World Records'™ on-site Adjudicator Carlos Martínez. To achieve this feat, 339 Subaru owners drove their cars in a 4.1-mile (6.6-km) parade route through the town of Itasca. While nearly 340 Subarus is a very impressive turn out for the mid-west region, it is basically nothing like the size of the turnouts the Wicked Big Meets have been doing for years. On hearing that this years WBM was going to set an official Guinness record for the largest Subaru gathering, I actually asked a buddy of mine to bring my other Subaru to the meet. Other then getting him to dunk Redobs, it seems to have been a bit of a wasted effort. Oh well, we'll set it next year.

We appreciate the effort! yeah, we were kinda upset that we couldnt pull it through, since guinness was only interested in "parades".
Ugh.
