So I did some Google searching and some looking around on NASIOC and couldn't find anybody else with this type of tweeter mount.

This is what came in my 09' WRX... and I was under the impression that they were stock, but I'm beginning to think that is incorrect. I know that the dealer tried to squeeze extra money out of me because the previous owner put in "premium audio" (which means a JVC headunit - which I've already replaced with Alpine - and some different speakers - which will also be swapped out to Alpine soon) so I was wondering if anybody else had seen tweeters mounted like this before? Or did I get some custom tweeter mount with my car?

Check this thread out and scroll down. I don't have much familiarity with the newer model WRXs, but more than likely it's a custom tweeter. An easy way to tell is to take the door panel off and as you're doing it to look for indications that it was custom work - scratches along the screw covers, missing/dinged up bolts, trimmed plastic, custom run wire, custom brackets. Anything that doesn't look factory. It's probably because it isn't. This isn't to say the dealer didn't do this either.

Exactly. Thanks for the link. I took the car to a dealership for its first service and the guy was like "never seen those before..." so I was just wondering. Thanks much.

I'm fairly certain the mount is aftermarket. Can't say I'm a fan of the tweets being mounted where they are, but you're kinda stuck with them since someone took a 1.5" hole-saw to your door. If you're looking to replace them, make sure that the speakers you purchase have the appropriate hardware to mount the tweeter like this. Most should, unless you go with some crazy off-brand.
