Need some help is choosing between a roof rack or having a tow hitch put on. I am very active and right now only plan on carrying my bike from place to place.. Any input would be great and help me make my mind up..
Roof rack $$$$ cost more but will give more options in the end..

Rack will cause your gas mileage to suffer.
Hitch bike carriers shouldn't be put on a 1-1/4" hitch like the ones for subarus..the leverage will put you over the weight capacity very fast.

Some racks are made to hold bikes on the smaller hitch size. They are usually rated for 150 lbs or so, and a normal bike weighs around 30.

A bike may weight 30lbs, but a hitch is rated for 200lbs right at the receiver. The further away you get from the receiver the lower your capacity. Elementary physics-leverage.
This is why I see bent hitches all the time.
You can get away with it if you use stabilizing straps..which all hitch manufacturers recommend..which I've never seen used.
sounds like the roof rack is the way to go... plus like you said, you have more options w/ the rack :)
