View Full Version : Joining subie girls..why not

(Please move this if its wrong, wasn't sure where to post)

So I a little confused as to why girls join Nasioc, clubWRX, IWSTI, ect.. But when it comes to joining Subie Girls. They don't or takes forever. I didn't know of Subie Girls, only NASIOC. I made a thread in the newbie section. A guy said check out Subie girls. I did, I had no idea there was so many girls, I was pumped! Maybe a day later I joined, lol I think I was even nervous.

I was just browsing NASIOC where a fellow subie girl, gave another girl a heads up about us to join and she said "I may check it out but I'm not on the comp much and already active in three forums. So its a lot lol"

........yeah, she has quoted everything for the last 3 days mins later..

Then another girl said"
"Am I the only girl who's welcome thread title didn't include "girl" and isn't on subiegirls?"

.........

I have noticed this alot.
I mean why not be on Subie girls if your a girl and your on 10 other forums with all men. I mean come on represent for the ladies!!!

Ok end of my rant :)

Someone let me know if I'm reading into this to much lol, I would just like to know why.

That's a great question Niamh. I ask myself that a lot. There is even a thread asking all sorts of questions about what people want and why they come to this forum, etc.

Maybe this is more of New England, but there are SO many girls here. And when we plan meets people don't come. And lately, we haven't had SG booths or events because I can't run them without help. California has been hard too. There are a LOT of girls there and reaching them has not been easy.

We grow because members of this forum tell other people on places like iwsti and Nasioc. Hell, even guys tell girls about us which is great. When you put vinyl on your car and buy a shirt you are not only helping to keep the forum/website running but you're spreading the word. We also have the street team/gossip girls (which everyone should check out)!

Being a part of a female community isn't enough for everyone. I understand that. But it is for me. We are changing this industry/hobby/etc. and opening eyes (and turning heads) while we're at it. And the more help I get, the more eyes we open. Each day we are being recognized by an already established group that is predominantly men. I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to be a part of that?!?

I'm with you Niamh. I was confused too today when I saw her post on NASIOC, that she was on so many other Subaru forums but not this one. I joined NASIOC first myself, but came here very shortly thereafter. I was a little nervous even joining here, mainly because most of you gals have WRX's and STI's...and maybe felt like I didn't fit in enough. But after going thru the threads, it seemed like a super supportive and fun place no matter what model you drive.

I guess people like us just have to keep spreading the word to other Subiegals out there like we did today on NASIOC. I'm still wanting a subiegirls decal for my car, but can't figure out where to get one. I really wanna represent in my area!

I agree, I was ecstatic when I found out about subiegirls. Other forums are so male based that unfortunately there's a lot of sexism. It's frustrating to get treated differently because you're a woman. Whether the thread says "new girl" or "new guy" it shouldn't make a difference. Personally I don't like putting up with that crap. I think it's extremely inappropriate to ask a girl for pictures or make stupid comments just because she is a woman. I think this is the only "safe" forum for women, at least until the mods on other ones start cracking down on the internet creeps that always pop up when a girl joins. It's funny how most don't allow swear words but sexual harassment is ok. I think any girl who doesn't want to join really just wants that special attention she may get on a predominantly male forum, but that's just my personal opinion. I know I would rather ask questions and learn here where I won't have a million guys asking for pictures and cyber stalking me. I've actually told several women in my area who I run into about subiegirls. I don't think any of them have joined unfortunately.

Also, I think I may know who you're referring to as well lol.

Lol. As a mod on another site, I recently had a run in with an extremely sexist member. Though I got support from my fellow mods, many of the members gave me grief stating I was being too sensitive. 2 days go by and I'm busy at work when I see the masses decided he really was a sexist pig and collaboratedly decided to out him. Guess I wasn't being so sensitive after all. But welcome.

I think you're probably reading to much into it. I'm on several different forums(NASIOC, Honda-tech) and I rarely post anymore. Hell, I've been on Honda-tech for nearly 10 years and haven't even made 100 posts yet. I'm on NASIOC everyday and I have to be extremely bored to venture outside of OT. This is the one site that I can say I consistently post on. Not sure why since I'm a dude and all, but whatever. Maybe she really doesn't spend that much time on the computer and does care that much about joining another forum. I rarely join forums unless I REALLY want to.

Being a part of a female community isn't enough for everyone. by an already established group that is predominantly men.

I think Sarah has it right here. The girls I've recommended this site to usually think it's more toward girly stuff(clothes, bags, etc.) and less about actual automotive interests. They joined NASIOC because it IS guy oriented and when you think any car scene, lets face it, it is dominated by guys. When guys talk about cars, they talk about CARS.

Superwomanchick: I agree with you, it is inappropiate. But I would say that the majority of NASIOC members now are probably mid teens to mid twenties guys, who are generally immature douchebags. And that isn't something that can be stomped out, unless you put some kind of age limit for members. Which for NASIOC, I am all ******* kinds of ready for. The stupid that permeates that site is mind-boggling and part of the reason I don't venture out of OT.:unamused:

That being said, I looked through the two threads mentioned, and the leg-humping really wasn't bad. Unless someone deleted the posts, it was mostly people welcoming those girls. You had four or five dbags whining, but that was about it. The one chick did post a pic of herself, which is ALWAYS asking for trouble.

*this long rambling hopefully coherent post brought to you by a 5:F*****g30 work phone call and now I can't sleep. I had a point and I hope it didn't get lost in the ramble. I'll probably reread it later today and edit it for coherence.*

Well they could be thinking "Ugh... all they'll want to talk about is shoes and shopping... I wanna talk cars..."

But I probably only say that because I am the least feminine girl on the planet... and girly things generally send me running away  And also not saying that this forum is *all* shoes and shopping and such either! :D

I think any girl who doesn't want to join really just wants that special attention she may get on a predominantly male forum, but that's just my personal opinion.

I think you hit the nail right on the head, totally agree.

In general, I think a lot of "car" girls are just used to the attention that having boobs and being interested in cars brings. Also, I see some females using that fact to overcompensate for the fact that they might not have a lot of car knowledge. (Kind of a pet peeve of mine because it makes most guys assume that ALL girls don't know their intake from an exhaust... but I digress...) I think that just being part of the gang and losing what makes you "special" on other forums doesn't appeal to some.

BUT we also have to consider that with the anonymity of the interwebs, you could live your entire life on Nasioc without telling anyone your a chick... Or a guy for that matter. But its assumed your a guy anyway(I have a lot of PMs starting with "dude" or "man") and if I don't want to deal with the ZOMG you're a girl!? routine, I simply don't correct them and continue.

Some people aren't forum people, some people just don't know how it make it work for their needs(like any sort of computer system) and a ton of people don't even know they exist. I see girls driving around, I know they're out there. I know our Facebook page has been pretty successful, and I think that's mainly because everyone and their mother is on Facebook nowadays. Literally everyone is using that, but not a lot of people know about forums.

All in all, I think Subiegirls is still growing. We've carved out our own identity and have an awesome environment for girls(and guys) to just hang out. Meeting other female car enthusiasts is always great fun for me, since its something I enjoy and as the saying goes, the more the merrier!

HA, Some assclown on Honda-tech STILL thinks I'm a chick because of some positions I've taken regarding certain issues. I don't correct him anymore becuase it amuses me when the best rebuttal he can throw out is "well thats cause you're a woman." Dumbass.

This too. It takes me forever to feel comfortable to post on a forum.

Just think, one day this site might be as bad as NASIOC and we will have to find another site to go to.

Thats the answer I was looking for!! If they think were all about shopping and all that they should check the site out first. Yeah not all chicks are on the net, but seeing the ones that are on nasioc, quoting everything mins later, when they're not on the computer alot, makes me wonder. lol I love posting on here because it mostly girls, its awesome. I don't have to worry.

I posted a pic in the tat2 thread on NASIOC( I was mad at my bf..:p), same one I posed here. I figured everyone would be semi respectful bc its a thread for ink. And everyone in there should be about that. I got dissed hard!!! hahahaha started saying I belong in prison and what would my moms say. lmao. I didn't take it to heart.

Thanks for all input and Subie Girls rule!! (only the ones on this forum tho hahahah)

It took me a while to find this forum haha I was on NASIOC and NES when someone (I forget who it was now) posted on my intro thread about this forum. I didn't join right away but wandered over eventually! It's fun having a forum thats not full of leg humpers (not that my sn helped at all with the word "girl" in it) And since I'm seriously considering competing in auto-x this year, its nice having other girls share their experiences. My bf has done it before but I've learned that on stuff like that, I'll just get overly frustrated with him.

When I joined NASIOC and RS25, a friend of mine suggested this forum to me. I actually didn't join right away either. I spent a week or two just looking around, seeing if it would be right for me. It is nice to have other girls to talk to in a predominately male centered world. I am really happy this forum was suggested to me.

I'm working on it - PROMISE!!

It's funny how most don't allow swear words but sexual harassment is ok.

That is an angle I've never even thought of.... I think most of it is just silly and harmless BUT you hit the nail on the head.

I think any girl who doesn't want to join really just wants that special attention she may get on a predominantly male forum, but that's just my personal opinion.

Also hit the nail on the head. Thank you for writing what I was thinking last night.

Personally, I think that as a GROUP we are getting attention (as mentioned in my post above). We may not have been the first female Subaru enthusiast group, but we are the strongest AND still growing. How is that not awesome?!? And we do it as a community (you ladies rock).

Well they could be thinking "Ugh... all they'll want to talk about is shoes and shopping... I wanna talk cars..."

Not all guys like soccer, photography, drinking, etc. but they are all popular male interests. Same with girls. That's why there are different kinds of threads. Read/post where you like and stay out where you don't. It's pretty easy. :)

Maybe it's because a lot of girls hate girls.

Edit: Just remembered, the last very active girl in the Subaru realm that I asked why she wasn't on here told me that doesn't like girls.

ohh chicks! hahah reminds me. I used to hate most girls. And that led to nothing but a criminal record.

Me and my sister were in a restaurant bathroom Saturday night. As I was washing my hands I was talking to my sister how the bathroom at five guys(another place we were earlier in the week)was soo clean it sparkled lol. Not saying that this bathroom was dirty. it was clean. I made a joke how i could eat off the floor at the other place. There was a girl in there at this point. Anyways as we get outside her boyfriend was waiting for us. He asked us if we were talking shit about the bathroom being dirty. We were like wtf. I guess the girl in the bathroom came outside talking to her man how "two stupid chicks in the bathroom were talking about how dirty the bathroom was.." and so forth. That's the type of chick I hate. I feel you get to a point in your life where you get past the childish behavior of hating girls you don't know for no reason. Me and my sister were pissed. We started discussin how we actually compliant girls now behind their back. Not talk trash.

Girls do talk trash. But I would hope people don't look at Subie Girls as a trash talking chick forum. The same thing all brought us here, our cars, so why not join, introduce yourself and post up some pics!

This is why I only have a few close girl friends. I live in the central valley and almost every girl is like that, they don't even need an excuse to be rude. It's sad, but women usually dislike other women. But I feel like when I find other women who have the same interests as me it's wonderful! Even if it's just online, because in town it's hard to make friends when women usually just give me steely eyed looks just for driving my car or because their bf likes it

Once most girls grow up and take their heads out of their butts, the majority are quite bearable to be around. :D

HAHHAHAHAH awesome!! theyr'e jelly!!! ahahhahaha

Ha. Mid high school - end of college I 'hated girls.' I was one of the guys and the girls I was friends with also 'hated girls.' Most of my women women friends/aquaintences are because of this forum/car clubs.

I have a very few female friends that have now become staples in my life from growing up. I feel like that's normal with most people win their childhood friends anyway.

I think of all the women friends I've had in different stages of my adult life and let's be real... Snow boarding (10+ years ago), metal/hardcore music and cars aren't really 'feminine' or oober 'girly' hobbies/interests. Yes, we are still girls buuuut we're different.

And most of the above posts show that we don't like d-bags women. As I've previously said (Christine, let me know if I write it wrong), bitches get stitches.

I feel the same way. I've always been "one of the guys" and only in the last few years has a bit more of my "girly" side has come out. I'm lucky to be working in animation, because most of the girls I've met are like me...kinda geeky and not out to impress all the time - no fakeys.

Ive gotta say that when i found Subiegirls i was beyond thrilled because I had joined nasioc and all the other sites when i got my wrx but i quickly noticed that it was clearly a boys world....Ill be the first to admit that i have a lot to learn mechanically but I WANT TO LEARN and am more than willing to-it just takes time and help along the way! I was sick of asking legitimate questions and just getting ragged on! But Subiegirls was different (which also surprised me). My first thought was just that it being predominantly girls it was going to be catty bs but its just the opposite! I feel like questions are welcomed and that people who have the answers are genuinely willing to help you out-thats what a forum should be like! Props to Sarah for giving us this outlet!!! Ive met some awesome people and been able to help out with an incredible cause so far!.....and i have yet to meet one girl that has gotten on my nerves (which is a rarity!)

See I'm totally opposite as most of these posts.

I was super super excited when I found out about subiegirls, came here and 'met' some cool people and 'met' some not so cool people. This of course happens everywhere in life not just on forums. A handful of people kinda ruined it for me and I rarely post here anymore. It's sad that a handful of people changed my whole image of this forum. I lurk every once and a while now, but don't post often because my posts either get ignored, I get pms complaining about what was said, or my threads get locked or deleted.

I thought this was a cool chill place to hang out and enjoy a hobby with other like-minded ladies. And while I still keep in contact with a few, this forum isn't to much on my radar anymore because of the drama and issues that have been had :( I keep lurking and not deleting thinking things might change but seems like the same stuff is still floating in and out.

So while I appreciate everything you've done to create this, it hasn't turn out like I anticipated and I find myself posting on nasioc much more often and getting more answers to further my car knowledge.

I found Subiegirls through Google. I was searching for a female subaru forum and I was certain there had to be other girls out there who wanted one too. And when I found this site, I was hesitant to join, because I wasn't sure I was going to fit in. I'm still pretty new here, but I have liked it thus far. And I can say that I don't regret signing up and placing that subiegirls vinyl on my car, because I have met some really awesome girls and guys on here. I just want to thank sarah for giving me a place to share my love for subaru's/cars with other people. :)

*However, I do understand that some people may feel disappointed with this forum or not want to join because of what others are saying/have said about this forum. Not everyone will like Subiegirls, but there is a majority of people who have joined and have stayed because they have made friends.

So while I appreciate everything you've done to create this, it hasn't turn out like I anticipated and I find myself posting on nasioc much more often and getting more answers to further my car knowledge.

Unfortunately, personal drama from off the forum has lead people to relate those issues to this forum because the issues were between forum members. And for the MANY members who do not/have not participated/seen/know about the issues, some things were on the more serious side. Cryssy - as you said, this happens everywhere in life. It's normal for people to relate personal issues to how/why they met people. It is what it is.

I have done my best to have moderators of this forum moderate fairly and without personal interest but noone is perfect and I can't be on the forum 24hrs a day to do all the moderating myself. When moderating doesn't seem fair I change it, address all parties at hand and move on.

I'm happy to report we have been practically drama free for quite some time now. And I'd like to remind older members/direct new members, to a thread titled 'bitches get stitches (http://www.subiegirls.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2036)' to outline that I will NOT tolerate drama. The thread was made around the climax of the cattiness. You dont have to like/be friends of with all members - but I do expect respect of others.

As for your threads/posts being ignored, I'm sorry that the members may not have the answers to the technical questions you may have. But if members do find answers elsewhere, I encourage you to sure here so we can all continue to learn.

*However, I do understand that some people may feel disappointed with this forum or not want to join because of what others are saying/have said about this forum. Not everyone will like Subiegirls, but there is a majority of people who have joined and have stayed because they have made friends.

You can't please everybody. So far we've done well with the majority and really, I think we should all be happy with that. We are a community and SubieGirls wouldn't be as is without its great members.
