i recommend going. if you can, volunteer or if you're into photography, ask for a press pass. i just take pics for kicks and asked for one, telling them i wanted to build up my portfolio, and they gave me one.

with a press pass or volunteer pass, you have access to many more viewing locations than regular spectators can get. i went in 2007 and had a great time. pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/minxx/sets/72157601935710097/ (some good subie shots).

i definitely recommend going. if i still lived in NYC, i would be tagging along, but i'm a bit far out for that now.

So i guess it is about time for an update...

The car Erika was codriving for didnt finish due to running on only 2 cyl. They finished day 1.

I also didnt finish and ended up rolling the car 5 times after i lost 3rd gear in the stage and then lost the brakes.

"broken motorsports" looks more apt than usual on that car. :o
looks like you had quite a tumble, but i'm glad you're ok. you rally people certainly have balls of steel to not let something like that scare you off from doing it all over again.
