I searched long and hard, and finally found my new baby. I endured a lot of obstacles along the way, but in the end, the drive home from Denver to Chicago went smoothly and was well worth it! Spent a good 13-14 hours driving straight through...

Installed mods:
Sedan front fenders and front bumper (STi)
Cleared headlights
Helix catless uppipe
APS downpipe
Opensource Stage 2 tune
Kartboy short shifter
Kartboy shifter bushings and rear stay
Hella Supertones
Alpine CDA-9856 headunit
Single-din pocket with door
Blue LED in ignition ring
STi side splitters
SPT catback exhaust! July 2011 gift from my awesome friends :)
Mods/goodies/fixes coming:
Replaced parking and turn signal lights with amber in the front
Touch-up paint all over and possibly a PDR for the hatch door [& hail damage from 4/7/10] :(
Clutch control limit (not yet installed)
Sedan fender liners (currently has stock wagon ones, which aren't wide enough)
Rallyarmor mudflaps in black/blue
"Someday" mods:
Rear strut/sway bars
Rally Innovations or custom built light bar *crosses fingers*
Lights for light bar
JDM foglights
Some fun wheels, probably in gunmetal
Suspension upgrade, probably RCE wagon springs, still researching
FINISH THE SEDAN FENDER CONVERSION! (sometime after "someday", but yes, I consider the bodywork to be an unfinished project)
So far, I'm absolutely ecstatic that I finally have a subie, and there's no looking back. Coming from my crapola Kia, I know this is the exciting car I've been longing for.

That's where I wanted to put mine, kind of to pay homage to the first car he was in, the 90 Civic hatch I learned to drive in, but the windows are too dark for him to show through :p He gets to guard my groceries instead

Wow thats trippy because i found my garfeild the other day while cleaning out my closet and he was originally in my first car i learned to drive that was a 93 civic sedan lol..... creepy :p

Whoa 0_0 Yeah, that's kinda scary :p
And Sasha, I found it close to Denver in Arvada. Guy was nice enough to pick me up from the airport and let me drive it around on all our errands to the bank and DMV and such. It was a nice experience, aside from my credit union being stupid many times. I need to take better pics, though. It's not in awesome condition externally, but it runs and drives like a dream :)

Some new pics...
Before the bulb switch, had clear turn signals and blue/green (ick) parking lights, but I like this view ;) I like that you can actually see my sedan front fenders, too

After the swap (headlights are still cleared, this is with the bulbs lit)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c166/sysdown143/scoobydoods/112009fatman/4680f20d.jpg
A few pics from our weekly meet group. Nice turnout last night for one of the guys' birthdays (14 or 15 subies through the evening):

Wagons!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c166/sysdown143/scoobydoods/112009fatman/497df31f.jpg
And this black/silver one is a new acquaintance of mine. Neat wagon, and it's for sale!

Hopefully more shots to come, and I need to replace my tripod so I can take steady night shots :D
Tomorrow's agenda: Black out interior panels and headliner!

Preview of what my headliner (on the left) looks like. The one on the right is out of my buddy's bugeye sedan, and only looks darker because it's still wet. I'll get more pics of my pillars and such soon :D
Edit: and the color looks weird in the pic, but both headliners dried to be a really nice true black. We're really pleased with it!

More pics!
Hellas installed (their little grilles will be painted blue eventually)
http://i50.tinypic.com/i3gu9h.jpg
Center console plastidipped
http://i50.tinypic.com/2aamv01.jpg
Subpar pic, but I'll get better ones for a write-up eventually...Map lights plastidipped, visor and headliner sprayed with fabric/vinyl paint
http://i49.tinypic.com/2i0yzi8.jpg
I masked over the airbag warning labels so the visors still looked stock-ish
http://i49.tinypic.com/ibe2jm.jpg
Helix uppipe and APS downpipe also installed over thanksgiving weekend, but I forgot my camera that day, so no pics :(

OOOOOOH.... Anyway to take a pic from the backseat so we can get a wider view? Very cool.

Yeah, a better shoot is in the works. I just took these pics while I was sitting at a light on an overcast morning. I'll lay the seats flat and get a better view of the headliner too :D
that car is definitely worth the drive. i wish subie would bring that wagon back.
like what you've done so far but you need to post more evidence of the blackness! and the hellas look really nice against the silver.

A couple more random ones. I found a pic of my two cars parked together before I sold the piece of crap Kia (someday maybe I'll tell that dumb car's story...it caught the car equivalent of the plague or something the second I decided I was looking for love elsewhere)
Jellybean (blue Kia) meets Toaster [just a sliiiiiight upgrade :D]

That's...kinda creepy, but thanks. I dunno when I'll be able to have someone put them on now that it's winter :(
In other news, I just got a "new" headunit...yeah, I said no more mods til spring, but this was a great price and I couldn't pass it up. It fits in better with my spooky interior than the massive silver stock brick :D

It's okay! I was joking. If I wanted to hide, I wouldn't have the same screen name across half a dozen subaru forums :D
I might do a writeup on the wheels and all the fun masking I did to get the lip just right...maaaaybe. I have all the pics needed, plus details on my goofs that I could share. Then again, this interior blackout writeup has been on the back burner for far too long. I need to remember to go out to my car on a weekend when it's light out and get some interior pics. Might complicate things now that I swapped to a single din head unit yesterday and don't have the din pocket for the space under it yet, so my interior is less than photogenic right now ;) Bear with me, I'll get it together soon!

Yep, I've got that covered...
STi side splitters will be installed in spring
Thanks for the compliment on the wheels :) At first I wasn't sure how well the color combination would fit the car, but I went with it anyway because I reallllly wanted a blue wagon. Now, I feel like I like them even more every time I look at them

*sigh* Good news/bad news: The Toaster got hit by some major hail on 4/5 and I just got an estimate on the repairs. Looks like I'm going to file a claim with my insurance to get it fixed up...so the bad news is I'm out the cost of my deductible, but the good news is she's gonna be gorgeous!
Hell ya new paint baby!! Wooooot! Got any pics of the damage? Ive heard people talk about hail damage to their car but Ive never actually gotten to see how bad it can be....

Aaaaaand I came to my senses the next day when I realized the insurance company would never stand for a car getting to look perfect, and sure enough when I met with the adjustor today, he poo-poohed just about everything on the body shop's estimate. They're covering PDRing the hail damage, but not a new hood, so no paint at all :( :sigh: well, at least it's something.

Try to have the shop fight it? The shop I just worked with in MA did. They were very helpful.

He did the best he could to fight, and I'm working a little deal in there so we'll see how this goes. I'm gonna try to see if I can take some pics tomorrow or Friday, but I probably won't have time and daylight... :(

Name the insurance company. This way we will know whom to boycott.
Hex Kitten
04-29-2010, 02:05 PM
Nah. I understand why they're hesitant and I'm pretty sure any insurance company would with all the hail claims they must have from this area. More details after I get it taken care of ;)

I'll be driving a rented '09 Chevy Malibu while they work on my car. Here's hoping they finish quick so I can have my baby back. This rental is slow and auto, and totally not my style :(
