What a mouthful! (That's what she said!)

Sooo... back in the fall of 2005 I was a senior in college and driving my what was previously my Mom's 1997 Pontiac Bonneville. I hated that car. I mean it was comfy and had a dash board with so many electronics it might as well have been an airplane... but Bonnie was a land yacht and when I graduated that spring I had every intention on buying a car that suited me better.

On 9/11/05 some idiot in a RAV4 hit me in a parking lot. She drove through the stop sign on her side of the intersection and into my lane and into my car. Air bags deployed and I had to bust my way out of the door. She was drunk/on drugs. Ask me if you want the stupid details of why she wasn't arrested.

So... I needed a car and I was faced with buying something to hold me over until I graduated or buying early. I chose early!

I convinced my ex-boyfriend to sell me his 2004 World Rally Blue WRX (by threatening to buy a 2002 Stage 4 WRB WRX tuned by XX with 400+ whp that he had his eye on). I figured my Mom always wanted me to drive a Subaru because they were AWD and reliable. Then I started to learn about cars... and I found out not only were they AWD and reliable... but they had turbos, a boxer rumble that can make your heart melt and SOOOO much more... <3 So I bought his car and he bought the Stage 4 bugeye (that was totaled in a hit and run on the highway less than 30 days later r.i.p amazing car).

In my quest for knowledge I asked questions and my ex just referred me to NASIOC for answers. It wasn't until almost a year later that I really started to read posts in NESIC and start to talk to people. I started going to meets and started what is now quite a network of Subaru driving friends and acquaintances.

In posting, I found a girl driving a bug eye that I had met the previous year around where I live. We met up, became friends and so my quest to find other girls who drive Subarus began. The thread "Calling All Ladies and Lady Lovers" was the beginning of what is now SubieGirls.com!!

Hi I was wondering, What u pushin out for HP on yo rex?

It was a REALLY cold day and I have yet to get the dyno chart from Swift (thanks for reminding me I should call them for it) but I believe it was 247.8 at the wheel. If not that exact number very close to it.

any new mods? how do you like the clutch/flywheel combo compared to stock??

xxthat girlxx
10-06-2009, 11:54 PM
Hmmm... well, I just bought a set of wheels to paint pink for winters! So I'll have to get crackin' on that soon! Nothing mod related right now that's new and not posted. I love the clutch/flywheel combo. But it takes more gas to get it going so living on a huge hill like I do is difficult b/c feathering the clutch is a lot harder.

Not that it matters to me a whole lot, but why wasn't she arrested & charged with DUI ? Was she a cop's daughter ?

Insurance likely didn't pay out all that much for an 8 year old Pontiac but at least it gave you the opportunity to get a car you really wanted.

It's a long story but a nice couple who stopped to help me got nervous with me that the girl would try to drive away (once the adrenaline of hitting me wore off she was a mess) so they took the keys out of the ignition (she had left her vehicle running). The police tried to find someone to pick her up and they said she would be charged with OUI but would probably get off. She also dropped her pants and pee'd in the parking lot so there is a good chance that she was someone important's relative.

Tell me about it. After I reported to my insurance and they contacted her insurance she hadn't contacted them and wouldn't return their calls. I had to wait a certain period of time to get my $500 dedectible (I think 7 days). That meant that her company found her at fault b/c she a) didn't contact them and/or b) wouldn't return their calls. So thankfully there was no doubt that she was to blame.

Yes, that certainly made your life much easier. Its just that having a habitual DUI/OUI offender set free means they are very likely to repeat their pattern of behaviour and eventually someone isn't going to walk away from one of these stupid "accidents".

Its bad enough when you read about these idiots driving the wrong way on an Interstate highway and killing some poor innocent person in a head-on collision, but when you read their long history of repeated driving offenses you can't help feeling that the current system failed.

Clearly the system failed if the lady who hit you was clearly under the influence of "something" and the officers on the scene didn't do anything about it.

It's been awhile since I've updated my journal. Cliffnotes: bad news that wasn't really that bad in the end (phew!).

My clutch has been slipping since late fall/early winter. And that is normally a bad thing, but especially bad for me since the clutch was only 1.25 years old when it started slipping. And only about 9mo. since my original transmission blew the bearing to the transfer case and I made the decision to install a new transmission instead of having it rebuilt. :sigh:

Then back in the spring, I had Subaru do a 135 point inspection for my car. Not only did they say "whoa, you need a new clutch" but they said "oh by the way, your driver's side headgasket is leaking." :sigh:

So at this point, I'm babying my car and limping it around.

Then there is WBM. I get raffle tickets. I put all but 3 tickets into a raffle for a 5spd transmission rebuild from DSG (http://www.dentsport.com) and the last 3 into a the raffle for money toward Exedy (new clutch).

Whelp, I won the transmission rebuild. So I scheduled time with DSG to rebuild my original transmission, install it/uninstall the transmission in the car, replace the clutch/flywheel aaaaand replace the headgaskets.

I delivered the tranny to DSG 2 weeks before the schedule major labor. They gave me a new (pre-owned) transfer case and bearing. They were very firm that they didn't think that the headgaskets were going. They suggested maybe a rear main seal leak. Which would explain the clutch's quick wear.

After giving them my car, they did compression and leak down tests. And wouldn't you know - they can't find oil leaks. At all. And they said the compression was the best they've seen on a Subaru.

So they installed the rebuilt transmission, new clutch and OEM flywheel (no more ACT lightweight).

The car feels GRAND. Although it doesn't feel slightly sluggish after going back to the OEM flywheels. Meh - oh well.

Did Patick Subaru tell you that you needed the left side cylinder head gasket ?

I guess when you see oil all over the underside of the car, it is easy to assume a blown head gasket, even if its just oil from another leak elsewhere.

Did Dent Sport Garage find and fix the rear main seal ? I am thinking that oil all over the clutch could easily cause the slipping, but maybe not all the wear.

Edit: Oh, and congratulation on getting your car fixed properly. DSG has an excellent reputation.

xxthat girlxx
08-25-2010, 10:55 PM
^A tech there told me that I needed a head gasket.

I guess. But what about "we think" and then do a compression test?

DSG found no oil leaks. Not with the head gaskets not with the rear main seal. Nothing.

And thanks. They are nice guys.

UPDATES:
Did wrex's brake pads in prep for the track. Ended up needing rotors. And a caliper bracket bolt broke off... So in a pinch sourced another caliper bracket.

My first track day was amazing aaaaand now I'm hooked. More to follow on this.

Wrex has a new look that isn't finished yet. I bought him some new goodies, worked on some fun diy pieces and he's going to the 'dr' to fix a boo-boo.... So there will be an unveiling if you will. Maybe I'll find some pics tonight to hold us over. :)

Okay! So here is a video from my last day up at NHMS. I ran with COMSCC and was signed off to solo. We were driving the south oval and north chicane configuration.

The app on my instructor's phone was acting odd and only recording every other lap. So you get the best lap of what we had. As you can see there were a few of us caught up behind the red Audi. At the end I was at 80mph much sooner in the front straight while passing him then I was at the beginning behind people.

Higher powered cars typically brake check/trail brake entering the oval. Miatas and smaller cars should be at it the whole way through. We did one lap without braking and it went very well but both my instructor and I went  so the goal was to enter at approx. 65mph and maintain until exit.

Based on what was recorded, I'm about 20sec + slower than the faster Miatas in this club. So I have a lot of work to do. We'll see how it goes for me in the Miata next year. Haha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAOKnizUPPQ&feature=youtu.be

The description for this video on youtube says: Scoobies for boobies at NHMS with COMSCC october 2011 w00t!
