and She's Just My Type...

But I'm really making this thread is because I'm a "artsy crafty." I thought I'd share one of my hobbies and see if there are any other creative folk out there.

I really enjoy making gifts as opposed to just buying them. That's pretty much the main reason I craft. It is not often that I actually take the time to make myself things.

I can also say that I'm usually strapped for time, so gift making usually stresses me out  (no surprise to you there). This also causes me to rush, I make stupid mistakes and I can always think of a "better" way to do it later.

i'm SO not artsy at all (anymore). i used to be into web design though... not so much anymore. little to no time will do that to you. i can't draw or color or anything either. oh well. haha. you should've seen what my gift wrapping skills used to be like hahahahhahaha

I'm big into drawing and painting... And I went to school for graphic art & photography. My job is designing t-shirt graphics and merch :)

I made some pretty cool etched pint glasses for Christmas last year. This was from round 2. I bit the bullet and paid to have the designs cut into vinyl instead of trying to do so by hand (like round 1). MUCH better results. :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/mikeyp5284/EJSeries/P1040441.jpg

This is my second "plush" attempt (I'll see if I can get pictures of the first). Combo of machine and hand stitching. I made this one on a whim (no patterns bought/downloaded/used to cut the fabric, just items around my craft area for shape). It's not an original idea... but it came out DAMN good if I say so myself. First person in three guesses to figure out what it is gets a cookie (hint: no, it's not a "cute ghost")

Cute! I do some sewing stuff...well, that's putting it lightly. I'm in school for fashion design and have been using a sewing machine since I was 11ish. I know how to make stuff, but due to lack of motivation and time, I tend to not bother making much :(

If you ever need another opinion on apparel design for the site, I'm game :D

This is a little Martha Stewart craft I made for my "holiday centerpiece." How puuuurty. It's nice because it is wintery and I can leave it up while it's cold outside not just take it down after Christmas.

I painted clay pots and planted spider plant babies for my family this year. This is one that I made as a house warming gift to dyfts and Jer. Simple. Nothing fancy. But again, I just like making gifts.

I can make you a wierd plushie?

Are those just made out of felt? I have been trying to imagine how to make a little toaster plushie to keep in my car, the Toaster :)

I took a pic of this bathroom graffiti back in 2008 when I was in St. Louis, and since then, the toaster joke has grown. It's even more silly because I'm gluten free and rarely bother with GF bread, so toast doesn't play much of a part in my diet

NICE! I like the tulle. Is it staying short or are you making it long/ball gown shaped? You'd better post pictures wearing it! Are you going to make your date a tie/vest etc?

My prom dress was 2 piece and camo. :D I made my bf/date a matching bow tie. I'll have to scan the picture in sometime. HA.

Darn, now I feel I should change my design to allow for real toaster slots... That's okay. I decided this morning that when I construct it, I want to see how I'll like the felt with some fabric stiffener on it, and if that works out then actual slots could get worked into the design :) I can't decide if I want to try to incorporate an :unamused: face into it...hmmmm

THere are some great items in this thread! Very creative women!
I try to make things all the time, I either get frustrated because it's not turning out right or I just never have time to actually finish! :-(

I've been trying to make bunkbeds for my kids for when we move out. But keep finding outher things to do. I have one bed and the rails of the other.

I also have dozens of half finished craft items laying around. Hoping I'll be able to find a small section of the new house to make a craft corner so I can finish my things.
This is very insperational! I want to finish my stuff, though I don't sew at all! haah Love the plushies!

So, I'm addicted to painting pottery right now. There are two different "paints" to choose from. There are glazes (what I have been using) and paints. I've been making serving items. I've made enough now that if you come to my house and I cook you dinner I'll use them and feel like an adult. ;)

Here's my first one. It's a serving plate. Half the colors I chose that night were out of stock so this is what I ended up with probably my 3rd or 4th color choice down the line. I loved it then, now after making more, I'm disappointed. :sigh:

http://www.subiegirls.com/sarah/crafts/plate.JPG

This is my second one. It is salad or chip sized. Love the colors. The speckle glaze is something that will be reoccurring. I'm also going with a "stripe" theme tie in if you can't tell. ;)

http://www.subiegirls.com/sarah/crafts/bowl.JPG

This is called a "chip and dip" but it's on the small side so you'd put cheese crackers on it. Can't cut cheese without a cute matching knife!!

that pottery painting is really cool! i didn't know you could get "blanks" like that and do the painting and baking part without having to start from scratch with the clay and wheel and everything.

Do any of you girls knit? I recently just started knitting and actually decided to make scarves for everyones Christmas presents. Here's one that I made for myself though.

That looks great Natalie! I do knit. I have pictures in this thread on one of my gifted scarfs from last Christmas.

I want to learn new stitches. I was thinking of learning to crochet as well. One thing at a time! But for a beginner your scarf has nice uniform stitches. Not to mention I LOVE that color. :)

I'm crafting a bunch for this holiday... I need to freaking get started!

one of the girls i went to school with deconstructed her fav sweater that was falling apart to make a scarf a few days ago... i pondered it with a sweater that shrunk too much but mine is a cashmere blend and i fear it will just unravel tooooo much when i start cutting into it.

Here are some things I have made:

Multi-color blanket that I made for a co-worker. He commissioned it (not sure if that is the correct term)

Cable is not too hard, I am mostly too lazy to do it. I know a lot of crazy stitches cuz I have a book of over 100 stitches. If you learn what the abbreviations stand for then you can do any stitch.

I dont have any pics but one thing i got into doing is saving all the beer caps off of our beer bottles...Then turning them into magnets...It's kind of fun when im bored. My boyfriend built a kegerator/beer fridge and its boring on the outside so I figured I would decorate a little. So now we keep all the beer caps & I turn them into magnets.Lol. The fridge is now covered with them and a bunch of random stickers. :D

I have not but the best that I can recommend is look up crochet abbreviations and how to do the stitches. If you learn that, then I would imagine, reading the patterns would be easier for you.

I can kind of get the abbreviations it's just sometimes it's hard for me to figure out what stitch to make a stitch in. All the videos i've been watching are confusing because their hands are usually in the way.

MissVenezuela85
03-18-2011, 09:18 PM
o yeah I can understand that! Crochetting is a bit more confusing, that is why I normally dont do it as much when it comes to patterns. Knitting is so much easier to read.

I make jewlery when I can get myself motivated and think of a design. Here are some of the things i've made over the past year. They were all gifts and everyone seemed to like them so I guess I did a good job.

I also dabble in photoshop although I am not super uber good yet. It's a learning process.

sorry about some of the pictures being blurry..they were taken with a camera phone.
