Well, might as well dovetail from xxthat girlxx's thread about painting wheels (http://www.subiegirls.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442)...

If you're on other Subaru sites, you may have seen these pics already... I've come to find they are love it or hate it, usually no gray area.

The process (abridged):
- Clean wheels inside and out with Simple Green
- Sand (no need to get down to bare metal, just scuff if up good)
- Index cards between the rim and tire
- Primer (I don't remember the brand off the top of my head, I think Rustoleum)
- Paint (Krylon X-Metals in purple...)
- Clear coat
- Wax
- Mount
- Enjoy

Dressed and ready to thrill:

(The lighting makes them look magenta, but I assure you they are purple... and no boy would drive w/ magenta wheels... would he? ;))

What would I do differently?
- Paint in the summer time to make use of the sun to dry...
- Thicker paint - there's three cans of paint on these bad boys... color's great though - a few have seen these in person
- Pick a color people won't hate one (j/k... I like the purple, and it's just my winter wheels... funny how upset people get about it... and over the internet too )

Suggestions?
Take it easy, but hurry up... you can get this project done in a very small amount of time.

How are they holding up?
So far so good... I expect them to get damaged since I'm driving through snow, ice, and salt... will see what they look like come Spring. Right now, they are a mix of purple, brake dust black, and salty white.

as a guy i actually like em.
I personally like purple as a offset color touch just to add a wild side to the car

i mean if you meet me in person i am like that with my shoes let alone cars

i own a pair of the Ken Block DC Shoes which came with 2 different colored strings (white and bright vibrant green like on his cars)
i wear white one side and green on the other.

Its strange weird and makes life more interesting imo.

kinda like blue subies with white or gold rims or for some of you ladies i seen try Pink rims. it adds a weird but fun style makes the car fun and interesting and different.

So purple i like so thumbs up to you for going out on a limb and trying something different

I think they look hot! Life would be freakin boring if everyone did & looked the same!
I have been thinking about painting my stock winter wheels this spring, not sure what color yet. Lucky for me everything goes with white. Of course thats after I actually buy my summer set up. :)

Ummm... it appears you painted over your wheel weights ?

My recommendation would be to pry these things UP and out of the way before painting your wheels, and after you are through painting your wheels bend the wheel balancing weights back in to proper position. This way when you exchange tyres (dismount the old, mount the new tyres and balance them) you aren't left with silver spots on your purple wheels.

While I personally like this colour, I don't think I would have the courage to drive around in a car with these particular coloured wheels.

Thanks.

Thanks, I like 'em.

Love the color.. car looks great!

Thank you! I was down your way just the other weekend for Hofstra's graduation ceremony...

I think they look hot!

Thanks. Hot boys drive cars with hot wheels. ;) Haha.

mmmmm those look good. looks like you posted this in the right forum ;)

The Snobaru forum didn't really like 'em at all...

Ummm... it appears you painted over your wheel weights ?

Yes sir. The latest in ricer technology - color matched wheel weights.

Those are brand new winter tires. They won't be changed for a while. ;)

Besides, I wanted to see how purple looks. I might go all the way and get them powdercoated at some point.

While I personally like this colour, I don't think I would have the courage to drive around in a car with these particular coloured wheels.

Purple is the color of royalty... and the (Subie) chicks dig 'em. ;)

I painted over my wheels weights too. I figured the paint would last longer/not be chipped by putting the wheels weights over the paint.

I just finished painting my winter wheels...yeah, I'm a little late. It has already snowed a couple times in Chicago and believe me, life sucks when you're going 30 mph on summer tires while people are whizzing past you. I can't wait to snap some pics after I get them put on tomorrow :D

Oh, and slightly more on topic: Nice purple :D
