Jan. 23-24! This rally should be pretty awesome! If anyone wants to come, work for our team or the rally- PM me!
A Romanian Team: Claudiu David and Mihaela Beldie Plan to compete.

"A notable Romanian team of Claudiu David and Mihaela Beldie (www.claudiudavid.ro) in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX announced their plans to enter the New York Winter Rally 2010 and the subsequent Rally New York events of the 2010 season.
The team is the 2004 and 2005 Romanian Champion in N1.6 Trophy. David and Beldie were the surprise of the Production car World Rally Championship at the 2007 Rally Japan. They were fifth in Group N before the last stage of the rally and in the end finished 12th because of technical problems. They started their Production World Rally Championship career at Rally Argentina where they finished 32nd overall, 11th in Group N. The same year they retired from Rally Wales Great Britain.

David’s and Beldie’s most recent successes are winning Group N and placing 4th overall at 42 Alliantz Rally and a string of first and second places overall and in Group N. They hail from Sinaia, Prahova in Romania.
Rally New York, Ltd. is headquartered in Forestburgh, New York located ninety miles northwest of New York City in spectacular southern Catskill Mountains of Sullivan County. It is dedicated to furthering the sport of stage rallying in the United States.

Rally New York, Ltd. is the organizer and promoter of events in the United States Rally Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com) and in the New York Rally Championship (www.RallyNewYork.com). Since the 2004 season, Rally New York events have been the only rallies in the United States that have consistently allowed full reconnaissance of the rally route by competitors before the event as well as pace notes. Rally New York USA in April 2006 was the first ever all-tarmac National Championship rally in the United States. All Rally New York events are conducted according to the international rally regulations."

So come out and support the brave teams!
Team Broken is has not yet confirmed how many pairs will be competing. Matt Gotlieb/Austin Gager are for sure and Erika Detota (me)/Jason Smith (yes we are switching seats this time) are unsure if Erika's car will be complete and ready- so stay tuned. We will be there supporting Claudio (the Romanian- who by the way has a girl co-driver!)

It was a struggle to get the car fully together in time for this event. I struggled with adjusting the suspension and alignment issues- but we made it through the days with E.DETOTA/J.SMITH: 3rd in class (2wd) and 8th overall.
M.GOTTLIEB/A.GAGER: 1st in class (pawd) and 9th overall

The roads were solid ice- thank goodness studded tires were available!

Very nice results for a car that was just finished in time for the rally.

Only 11 minutes behind the leader ? You got forty seconds tacked to your overall time for being "late" in two stages ? Were these late penalties the result of a mechanical failure, or just getting stuck ? Based on your stage times your performance looked to be very competitive.

The two stages that my time was REALLY long- I got stuck. First just overshot and J had to push me out of the snow bank. Second time I left foot braked over an ice patch it was a R5 I think- and I spun 90 facing down the stage. Then the sti behind me was looking at me so I stuffed it into another snowbank. Luckily it was right before a spectator area- So the spectators pushed me out.

The time penalties are from being late into or out of time controls. One of them was a mistake on the time controller but we did not notice. Lesson learned if something doesn't make sense on your time card- dispute it then and there... That accounted for 30 of the 40.

The last 10 sec. was for being late out of service. We have some complications putting on the lightpod. My hood pins couldn't be accessed with it on. So the guys quickly cut access which then wore down my coolant line on the transit- which we fixed in time for the stage. Thanks to J my co-driver and Tim who was working as sweep -having the good idea to cut the line short and reconnect it.

Rally is always some drama. This one seemed pretty dramaless until I just typed it out... haha

The press release should be coming soon...

Sounds like you're kicking butt! Sorry about the vinyl issue. I emailed my "vinyl" guy about it, he never got back to me and then I wasn't sure where to turn last minute. You and I will work it out/plan what you'd like. :)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Narrowsburg, NY –Broken Motorsports withstood and conquered the extremely icy conditions at the recent New York Winter Rally in the first USRC event of 2010.

This event was the debut of Erika Detota’s recent project, a 1995 front wheel drive Subaru Impreza. Not only was the car build a success but also her driving skills, finishing an impressive 3rd place in the 2WD Class and 8th overall. Erika is a new face in the sport, but she has extensive training from Team O’Neil Rally School, which appears to have fired her up. Spending her time volunteering for rallies, co-driving and building her car, it is obvious her goals were set high. Thanks to the help from friends, sponsors, Team Broken, the long hours spent finishing the car all came together making it to the event with 10 minutes to spare.

“We are so happy to get our newest team car competing” says William Petrow, owner of Broken Motorsports. This car represents advanced custom abilities of Broken Motorsports in building modified cars. It was a “technical and uncharted process” that was a success from the proven efforts of the entire team.

Competing teammates Matt Gottlieb co-driven by Austin Gager had a bittersweet event. On Sunday the team in their Production AWD class WRX, started well setting great stage times, but on SS8 were not so lucky. With too much entry speed into a tricky corner, a kiss with a tree was captured by many cameras by nearby spectators. The experience was phenomenal and we felt improvement in each stage” said Gottlieb of the overall event.

Both teams utilized Tread Zone supplied Hankook Winter iPike studded tires. The rally permitted the use of studded tires, which was a first for US rally in many years. “I can’t imagine driving the stages without studded tires” says Erika. With little experience on the snow and ice, she was more than pleased with their grip and performance.

The pressure is on to keep momentum going into the next events. Watch for new cars and more events from this high energy team of enthusiasts.

Team Broken Racing would like to thank their friends, supporters, fans and sponsors:
Broken Motorsports, Team O’Neil Rally and Car Control Center, Rally Armor, KNS Brakes, USRT, Pit Crew Skateboards, RallyEAST, Big Boulder Park, Want Beverages, and Robert Cella. Without all of your help this team would not be racing.
