BIG UPDATE!!!!

To answer all of your questions, I will try and get that all done in this post. First of all, I would like to thank EFILogics for having me almost the entire day Saturday getting all of the diagnostic and installs done. What was on the table to be taken care of:

-Re-Install of the rebuilt Tein SS-P rear coilovers
-Alignment
-Bleed brake fluid and replace with ATE Superblue
-Oil Change
-Find out where all of the oil is going

The first 4 were pretty simple and I have to say, I am very impressed Jack was able to get 2.25* camber in the rear off a stock system. I am running 2.5* front, 2.25* rear now.

Onto the main issue at hand. Rob worked his magic in diagnosis of my oil issue and came to the conclusion that my

engine is looking good!

Spark Plugs are clean with no oil on it, Compression check determined the following. Rob was very impressed an engine with 80k+ on it can pull this compression.

Cyl1:139
Cyl2:140
Cyl3:141
Cyl4:140

All good right? Well there are some things I have to do at sometime soon. The drivers side, cam seal is leaking a little bit, but definitely not 2.5 qts over 1000 miles. It hasn't even leaked enough to drip onto my skid plate yet. Also my Drivers side axle seal on the rear differential is leaking a little as well. So those are 2 maintenance items on my radar now.

Onto the turbo next:

Rob and Jack inspect the inlet and exhaust side of my turbo using a borascope and they really dont see any oil residue on it. Kind of surprized they look at the inlet side of the turbo and see some degredation of the compressor wheel blades which means some small stuff got by my APS intake. They then decided to take the downpipe off and check out the exhaust housing a little better and found that there was a good amount of shaft play (more then they would like). I think we now found my issue. Most likely causing my oil issues are during high boost, the thrust bearing is leaking oil with the added pressure and since the EGT's are so high, it is evaporating my oil, hence the smoke out of my tailpipe at high boost.

Way ahead....

I am going to be removing my turbo and selling it AS IS. Blouch offers a rebuild service starting at $349 so the new owner can have it rebuilt and have some of the nice Blouch options added if they would like. I know there are a few of you that read my journal that may be interested in this option. I do not know how much yet to sell it for, but I think $500-550 would be a good place since it needs to be rebuilt.

What do you think I am going to get now????? (Turbo Wise) (The people that know, keep out of this one )

It has been a long six months since I have updated this thread, so here is the summary...
So here is the full update:

First of all, I would like to thank EFI for putting up with me putting around the shop the last 2 days!

Onto the updates.

(ATP3076) External Wastegate - Installed
AEM 3.5 Bar Map Sensor - Installed
Peterson catch can - Modified and installed

Problem solved - Oil burning issue solved

New Problem - Head Studs stretched on the base line run on the dyno causing volcano out of the overflow. I have to take some of the blame for this because I kinda knew in the back of my head that it was happening, but I never put 2 and 2 together even before this happened today. Onto the good and interesting news. This is what the turbo did on the baseline run before any tuning or tweaking.. Remember, this is when the studs went pop so we cut the run short at 5k RPM. Easily 430/430 if it kept going, and with tweaking.

http://efilogics.com/dyno/graph.php?gb=0&hp=1&torque=1&rpm=1&sl=1&sln=1&runid1=904&rgb1=000000255

So here is the plan, I am actually dropping my car of on June 5th which is the day Badlandsracer is picking his car up. That is the first opening for a Engine Job.

Here is my prospective build as it stands right now. I am not going for power, I am going for reliability at these numbers. The car has 81k miles on it so it will get a new short block.

-08+ ShortBlock
-EFI Pistons and Rings
-ARP Head Studs
-Subaru Gasket Kit
-08 STi Oil Pump
-08 Water Pump
-Gates Timing Belt
-Koyo Radiator
-Tomei Timing Belt Guide
-Gates Accessory Belts
-NGK 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs

Starting in a month, it will have to be babysat in MD. Although I think StripesRX has first bid though.

Thanks much, it's nice to hear compliments on something you have worked so hard at.

Well it's been a while since I posted here... There has been massive updates to the car, some good and some bad. Let's start with the good...

You may have seen the car in the EFILogics Booth at Wicked Big Meet last year...

I just wanted to tell everyone how AMAZING COBB is. I wanted to thank Lance from Cobb in Austin especially.

Here is the story.

While I was up at the Wicked Big Meet. I was sitting around the EFILogics Booth. They happen to have their booth right next to Cobb's. During the day, I began speaking to Lance about an issue I was having with connectivity with the OBD2 and dongle. It wasn't ever much of an issue until I had to do logging and it would keep disconnecting and shutting off. Myself being an original owner of the AP2 (under#400 purchased) I figured I was out of luck. He said there wasn't anything he could do there, but he would be back in the office the following Monday and took my information. After eating some great burgers in Hartford, and getting back to the work schedule, I honestly forgot that I was supposed to get a call. Right on time, Lance gave me a call to talk about my situation and offered to get it repaired. Without going into details, he said I didn't have to un-marry the AP2 so I could still drive the car, mail it to them and they will get it back to me via ground shipping with about a 1-2 day turn around upgrading my current model to the V2b model with new OBD2 Cable and connector on the AP. I sent my AP out to Cobb via USPS Priority mail on the next morning and it arrived on Thursday of that week. I got an immediate email on Thursday stating they have received the AP and it is in repair. Fast forward to the next Tuesday when I got a shipping notice that it was on my way back.

I finally received it today after missing the first delivery attempt and a holiday weekend. Not only did I get my AP back with brand new enclosure, but a SHIRT also. Service like this sets companies like this FAR ahead then anyone else around. I know there are many fans of COBB and the products they offer but this is YET AGAIN, another example of why they are an industry leader in ECU management and other bolt on items. Please do not hesitate to call COBB or any of their many ProTuners for anything you may need.

Thanks again to Lance for going above and beyond to make me a LIFELONG Customer.

And now the Bad...this was back in October....

It's been a sad couple of weeks on my side. Unfortunately my car took a turn for the worse 2 weeks ago driving on my way home. We don't have any idea what the root cause was but the end result was definitely evident. The obvious things are that the #2 stock rod snapped. Was about 1/2 throttle (10-15lbs boost) 4-5k rpm's and then boom! Smoke and oil everywhere. With the evident damage, I will be definitely needing a short block which I will be now getting race bearings and rods. It will be a while since EFI is backed up but that doesn't concern me because I wasn't planning on having it on the road this winter. Here is some of the initial photos and the motor has yet to be torn apart.

Some photos for your viewing pleasure.

Please keep the speculation to a minimum please.
