So he can get paid more and full benefits in the marines. The nerve of people these days.

Thats, ummmm, impressive. Was he a recent ex, cause otherwise thats pretty weird.
My ex just waited a year to tell me she didn't want to marry me and kept the ring, so, sometimes people just suck.

Oh dang that's jacked, and no it wasn't recent, we broke up 3 years ago, he cheated on me. Lol.

Well that pretty much achieves Douche-bag status. I'll never understand how some people, men or women, think.

Yeah lol I asked what i'd get out of it, he said 250 a month, that isn't even enough for my car payment. Oh and he said I could stay at the house he's gonna get whenever I want. Bah! so not worth it. He wants me to help him when I get the short end of the stick. Maybe i'd think about it if it was like a grand a month, but 250? All I need is two more shifts at work for that.

Ehhh.... sounds like he was kidding. He must have been.... I couldn't even imagine.

Oh know he wasn't. He described is as a business endeavor. Not in those words exactly, but told me he wanted to get the bigger paycheck. I know him, and I know he asked me because he knows I'm the only girl he knows that wouldn't ever become emotionally attached to him. It's odd though because a couple months ago he txtd me saying how he was stupid for losing the only girl he ever loved blah blah blah (referring to me). I don't know what he's thinking but lately it seems like he just keeps coming around.
But I have heard of a lot of these marriages happening in the armed forces. My friends older sister is in one. They get married for the money and then have separate lives.

That happens all the time. Basic pay isn't terribel, but its a hell of a lot better getting dependent pay for being married. I know a bunch of people who did it while I was in. I however, married for the right reasons! People are nuts for doing it...to much drama!

If you're feeling vindictive I guess you could report him to his superiors?

Lol yeah I told him that i'm dating someone right now and it'd be a little weird if I was married to someone else, even if it was for money, but that's just not worth it. When I get married, I know it's cheesy, but it's going to be to a guy who's head over heels for me and i'm head over heels for him.

That's not cheesy...that's what it traditionally is supposed to be like. I feel marriages made as "business ventures" belong in the Middle Ages. If he asks you again, ask him how many acres of land and cattle he's going to give your father

Agreed... not cheezy at all. That's how it should be. :D
Marriage these days is losing its true value, and it's becoming more directed toward money & rules, rather than true love ... Kinda unfortunate :(

Dan and I are getting married because we love each other and want to spend our lives together. So I don't think its cheezy either. I'm excited for our wedding because I'm marrying dan and not just getting married to get married.
And honestly, in some states, getting married can be worse for your taxes.

Yeah, it's not cheesy at all. I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to love. And marraige is serious business and not something to be taken lightly.
My older sister married a guy who was in the Navy. I think aside from pay, men in the military like knowing they have someone to be there for them. I know people who went into the military in their young 20s and came out in their late 20s and they felt like they lost10 years of their life and felt like when it came to dating they were in their early 20s.

WOW what people would do for a couple of dollars....This screws honest couples married to active military over because then we're under the microscope and show proof of EVERYTHING! Example: Living arrangements especially when members are overseas with dependents. People have been caught doing this and got serverly penalized and actual couples feel the backlash. So not worth it.

Actually . . . i've dropped several hints about valentines day meaning a lot to me. He avoids the topic. So i'll probably be treating myself to a pedicure and drinking some wine while watching episodes of Bones and Criminal Minds that day.
