Soooo... I'm thinking about doing it.
I was referred to this product: VHT Nite Shades (http://www.trucknvans.com/VHT-Nite-Shades-p/sp999.htm)
I'm thinking only one coat (instead of the recommended 2-3) and a clear coat so that it's not too dark and hopefully I won't get pulled over. Thoughts?
Anyone else in NE interested? We can have a party!

Do it, since I was a referrer :) Yes, do a clear coat. I chose not to clear mine. They look like a matte finish, so clear should gloss them up. Well worth it, really cool look as you already know girl. Ever think about using krylon black paint and painting your headlights? I am really thinking about doing it. I have the paint. So I just have to bake them, paint them, and re-bake them to re-heat the glue.

I've already cleared them and I really like the chrome. And to be honest I had a small issue with condensation on the drivers side and it ended up to be a really easy and silly to find mistake (breather tube cap was pushed closed... UGH!). I really don't want to open them up again. Lol.
I do think I'll do the tails though. And with a clear coat to keep 'em nice and glossy.

I wouldnt paint them just my opinion. Use the tint like I used on my legacy..there is dif shades and at least if you get harrassed for the you wont have to buy new tail lights

Agreed. Something that you can easily change is good.

Well IF you get hassled, paint thinner easily takes it off with a little paint thinner. So it could be changed. Also from what others say, if you're tinting the lights, get a pair of 06-07 lights to tint, because the 04-05's are very nice.

Yeah I do like my stock tails much better... these suggestions are why I haven't actually tinted them yet.

Everyone out here uses VHT night shades! It looks good!
My ex had an 05, and he used the tint film. It bubbled around the little circle part...
I like the look of the tint spray personally...

i'd say go for it, but it wouldn't match anything else on the car... i've had my tails tinted (very very dark) for about a year and i have yet to be hassled.

I still plan on debadging the front grill and putting black mesh foglight covers on my car. I thought it would balance nicely? And plus, how does looking at nice dark tails from the back end of my car mean it doesn't match? I'm just curious.
do it!!!!
Still debating...

it looks great, my laminex is clear just to protect the lens, but the material is super thick

it was pretty easy to use but look at the light one is rectangle and one is a big circle...lol
I did the legacy and an 07 sti headlights which truley sucked to do cuz of the circle that pops out of the center of the lights.
I did both cars taillights as well.
It takes a little patience to get it to lay right and a little heat to warm up and make the product plyable..
We did a write up on Megs..not sure why she hasnt posted it yet

just saying it wouldn't match anything because all the accents on your car are pink... (stickers and whatnot)
if you really want to try out the VHT stuff, i recommend getting a second set of tail lights. that's what i did. that way you can take your time painting them and also switch back to stock should you ever need to for any reason.

not a fan of the blacked out tails/headlights. they never look right IMO. plus it'll just give cops in MA that much more reason to pull you over.

Well, obviously you weren't in Massachusetts.
I can't help wondering what Sara's car would look like with pink tails. Do any paint companies make a transparent pink paint ?

They make a rattle can with "stained glass" paint. That is how a lot of people paint the 08/09 tails. I think pink would be pretty hideous on the tails...

I agree!! No pink and red together!!!

Tuning the red into pink would be an interesting concept...
Im not really a fan of the blacked out tails either but to each his own! If it will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside like this - :sarah: - lo then do it! But ya as mentioned earlier you should get another set of tails or get the 06-07's and do it on those. I guess the 04-05' are the most expensive ones....
And regarding paint or tint - All I know is that we had painted the headlights before and when Ed messed em up he was able to easily take it off w/ paint thinner so no biggy w/ the paint...

04-05s are way better looking. And Jer had to adjust his taillights after painting them. Paint thinner works but it was a p.i.a.

I love the tinted tails, especially on darker cars. Def. do clear and hit it with some sort of rubbing compound to smooth it all out. I did 2 light coats on my GSX and it looks pretty sweet.

Blacked out lights look awesome... But I personally wouldn't paint mine. I'm searching for leads on good quality tinted covers for my 3g... If anyone has a link, let me know! :)

I used this on my fog light just to test it out and it works great. The material they use is real thick so it protects your lights well and they cum pre cut to the size of your lights so its real easy to instal. Just stick it on smooth out the bubbles and trim off the placement tabs.
Hope this helps ya PUNK !!!!

i personally dislike tinted/blacked out/smoked tails. its incredibly dangerous. people tailgate like crazy here in FL & dont pay attention as it is- the last thing i need is the visibility of my tails being reduced lol

i think the smoked tails look cool but wouldn't do them really black for safety reasons also.
what about backing up too? when I went from 2000 to 2004 forester I had to figure out a mod to use convert halogen fog lights for my reverse bulbs to get similar lighting after installing just 20% tint on the rear windows.
I think the blacked out lights look good on some cars. Many of my customers who opt for our overlay kit (black or red) for the GRB's tend to cut out the reverse lights themselves...or take it to a tint shop and have them do it. I def think the red is an improvement.
IMHO I would opt for doing some overlays rather than painting. If you're looking to do an overlay (whether it be custom to car or just a specific dimension) I would recommend http://www.stickercity.com/.
