View Full Version : Subie Ricers?

So I posted pix of my sad little Subie on FaceBook and commented how he was a project car and now I keep hearing I'm going to have a ricer. But I know Subie owners don't consider themselves ricers. So my question is what's the difference really? I always thought ricer was spacificly for Toyota, Mitsubishi and Honda made cars. Obviously that is not right, so what is a ricer and how is it different than what ya'll drive? And how do I set these folks straight?!

I'm not sure that most ricers admit to being a ricer no matter what make and mod they drive.... And there are subaru owners hat rice out their cars. Whether it's on purpose or not.
I'll write more later when I'm not on my iPhone.
Any car can be riced out domestic or import it is basically what you do to it esthetically that makes your car a ricer or not....I found an urban dictionary that perfectly defined the word "ricer"...
"Ricer Definition" (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricer) Please see the images for examples....
So the legacy L that you just bought, is it in drivable conditions right now? Like does it need alot of work to get it on the road? If it does then you guys should put together a list of all the expenses of repairing it. After you do that, compare it to what its going to cost you to get the newer impreza. Is it going to save you money to fix this one or to buy the newer one? Then you want to think of putting mods on the car little by little. Its gonna kill your pockets if you just jump into getting it hooked up.
Your off to a good start if your hubby gives you the intake and exaust. Then you can move onto other things. Important question about your project is: Do you want your car to drive more aggressivley or to look aggressive? After you answer both these questions I think you'll get a much better response as to what you should do to it.

I love the urban dictionary definition of Ricer! haha That is what I think about and not so much what I will be doing! If I had known more about cars or more people that knew about them I would have riced out my Eclipse 10 years ago! Thank God that didn't happen! It was dropped and sat about 2in, if that off the ground, plus had low bumpers/skirts and 17x8 (or whatever width) wheels. I can't remember what mods were under the hood but it was minimal and had I not gotten pregnant and needed a better car seat friendly car I would have kept it and done everything listed in the urban dictionary! LoL Scary! So glad I'm over that!
Thanks

I've found that is easier to just accept that to some one some where you are a ricer. I just consider myself a ricer with better taste
and a faster car. :D

I did this to my old Impreza cause I was bored one day:

I am a ricer.
Although theres two types of ricers, those who think they have a race car and those who know that their car is just a 4 door car with 50hp. Ricer is more of a mentality.

Lulz, This topic ALWAYS comes up on any import site and it always ends in a 19283848490348 billion page thread. A ricer technically is anybody that drives a asian vehicle, though it's been bastardized from it's first definition of just crotch-rocket. It generally is referenced toward Honda's because those drivers tend to favor obnoxious sounding exhausts, stupid bodykits, wings, neons and stickers.
Rice is really in the eye of the beholder though, and if someone is calling you that, generally you aren't going to be able to change there mind. One persons rice is another persons awesome vehicle.

Im letting people call me a ricer because Im rocking stickers down the side of my car. Thing is, it doesnt bother me because it would be different if I didnt have these brands on my car. But I do.

Different people have different definitions of what a "ricer" is. Some will consider full body kits or custom paint jobs "ricy". Some people can't differentiate the difference between a show car and a ricer. It's all a matter of opinion.
Especially Subaru people tend to be more snobby (for lack of a better word) about what people decide to do with their cars. This is really the only thing I disagree with most people about. I feel like so many Subies look exactly the same, and nobody seems to want to be unique. I'm all for uniqueness and custom body mods. I think it's great. And I really don't think there is such a thing as a Subaru ricer, because they are such great cars underneath any aftermarket work.
It's your car & your choice. Don't let other people's opinions affect your decisions. It's your car- do what you want with it! I've caught a lot of crap for having hot pink universal 5-lug rims. I don't care. I like them. (...and can't afford Rota grinds  )
And my car is only gonna get more outta the ordinary as time passes... But performance & suspension takes priority.

Thanks for all the input. I asked because without having a single mod I was already being accused (by an x-bf of all people) for being a ricer! I thought that was funny, because I haven't even done anything to it! I'm going to believe that my car (this one or the newer one I'm really debating getting next tax season) will be a Tuner not a Ricer! But to each their own.
I was a little miffed with this x-bf because his biggest issue is that I never bought a Mustang like he wanted me to when we were together. (I had one kid and one on the way, ummm can we say not a good car seat car?! haha) Plus, what Tuner/Ricer can be as fast or have as much hp as a stock Cobra?! Wait, planty if the money is put into the right parts! Just don't tell him I think that! haha
OMG well good thing u didnt listen to ur ex about the mustang! U wouldnt have found us!! :D or your love for subies!

I know! LoL I went from him doing the "we're off and on" basically when he wanted action he called me and me not being cool with that. To my blind date with my Subie guy and ending my life long love of American muscle! haha (Just don't tell my Grandpa, I'm still hoping to get his Mustang some day! hehe Hey, it's convertible and paid off!)

I also think that rice is in the eye of the beholder. If u do quality, tasteful mods, I believe that ur car will stay out of the rice category. Its all about steppin it up and doin it right. If a car has cheesy, half-a$$ed mods, it just doesnt look good and ur car tends to get more criticism. My .02...

Haha I get called a ricer. Its to be expected. Silly people.
So happy that you didn't buy a mustang. I had an ex that did the same exact thing to me that your's did. He loved muscle cars.

I called a guy a ricer once as a joke and he got all pissed off... it was kinda funny because he was trying to make a bug eye a show car and I swear it lookes like it came straight from the first Fast & the Furious.

I am a ricer most likely  I have stickers on both cars and the wrx has an obnoxiously loud catback with plans of an HKS SSQV BOV on the new engine. Now it will make the weird little whistly psssh noise between each section of BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH :D

I get called ricer every once in a while.
don't know how its suppose to offend me.
Ricer by my definition is when you take a 100 dollar civic or neon thats rotting to hell and back.. add a fixed wing that we haven't seen in production in atleast 10 years
a fart can that you bought at Autozone in which you put on your stock exhaust thats just big enough to fit a magic marker in along with autozones leftover inventory of APC (if you don't get it APC has been out of buisness for like 2 years and the stores can't even give the crap away let alone sell it so they have stocks of it in their inventory). And then proceed to drive like you are in a
GT series race
and then proceed to claim you can shut down sti's, evo's, hell even vipers on a straight away like they were standing still.
That is a ricer
but as far as a show car that imo is awesome and kinda what i am trying to do with my wrx. I don't plan on cracking the sound barrier with it. I just want it to look cool.

I was actually called a ricer yesteday. They informed me that my exhaust sounded like a honda.. which suprised me because I have an Invidia turbo back that sounds NOTHING like a honda.. Ugh. And my car is wingless, so that takes away even more of the 'ricer' vibe.. but, to each their own, I suppose. haha.

Hopefully I will be wingless soon as well. Then our cars can be even bigger twins (minus the color) Love you wifey:P!
