For those who are brand new to the Subaru world. I've noticed a couple people aren't sure about the classifications, nicknames, etc. So here ya go. :)

Thanks! I started figuring some of the names out, "bugeye" was one I used to discribe the years I do not like (sorry) and I see that is what they really are called, that and the "blobeye"! haha
Now for a question, I keep hearing people refering to Eric's 01 as a GC, but doesn't GC end at 00? (Your illistration is showing this also.) So he would have either a GD ot GG?

Subaru introduced the "New Age" Impreza to the world market in 2001. The second generation Impreza was intended to be larger, safer, stiffer, more refined, and more responsive

I think they mean that the 2nd gen began production in 2001... for the 2002 bug eyes....


For quick and easy reference to the different exteriors, some Subaru Impreza owners use nicknames based on the headlights. Each relates to a creature that has similar looking eyes: 2002-2003 are 'bug eyes' / 2004-2005 are 'crocodile' or 'blob eyes' / 2006-2007 are 'hawk eyes'.

But that would still mean that your diagram is correct... I think they are going by production yr not the yr of the car....

Can someone else clarify here...

After this was first posted Eric and I were talking about it. He's wondering if they maybe released the new modles a year sooner in Japan and that is why there is contradicting information. I haven't looked into this so I don't know. I think he is nuts though because he's also saying my car is a 2nd generation, and I know it's not! His isn't even a 2nd gen! Right?! Anyways, I think subiecutie has a point with the model year vs the production year, that would make the most sense to me.

Yeah, the 2002 Impreza WRX was released for sale in the US in the late winter (March maybe?) of 2001.

I've also read "Ugly Eye" "Camry Eye" "Burns My Eye" :lol:

I guess we're better off just calling them 3G's.... :p

And yeah that would be silly to call them eagle eyes haha. Eagle and Hawk eyes are one and the same lmao...Tho, the headlights on 3Gs are similar to Hawkeyes, just more curvy i think...
