Ok, so we put my car on hold to work on his and save for a new car for me. He wants to work his way slowly into the race scene, so obviously we're starting with stage one upgrades! LoL So far all he has is the air intake, exhaust and sway bars, sorry don't know the brands. The intake and exhaust will be replace next year sometime.
These are what I have found in the history on the computer, so I'm wondering what ya'll can tell me about them. I would like to suprise him this month with something but I have no idea what and I know with him wanting to start off in stage one racing I need to be careful what I get him or it will just sit in the shop for awhile! I should have $400 coming in that he doesn't know about and I would love to spend part on him, I'm hoping to save some for my seats, they are horrible! LoL So whatever you can tell me about the list below would be great, if you know of a better deal let me know. Also what would you like to be suprised with? I'm pretty sure I could get the Rear Lock Off Bolts and the Power Steering Bushings along with one of the others, bt nt sure which would be better.

First, Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit- http://www.rallitek.com/whankit.html
Then, Whiteline Alloy Rear Endlinks- http://www.rallitek.com/whalreen.html
Next, Whiteline Power Steering Bushing- http://www.rallitek.com/postrabukit.html
Lastly, Rear Sub-Frame Lock Bolts- http://www.rallitek.com/whresulobo.html

On top of those he is selling his turn tables and one of his electric guitars to buy a turbo (http://www.rallitek.com/avo25tukitwi.html), this is the one from the history. I want the most info on this, I know getting the wrong turbo can really mess things up. Though I thought in stage one you couldn't modify the engine, just the ehaust, intake, and suspention, so I'm not sure why we even talked about him getting a turbo! haha Dreams maybe.

Also, anytime I use "stupid girl" terms please correct me for the proper ones! haha I don't want to sound as car stupid as I really am at the moment! Plus how else will I learn?

ETA~~ I took a leap and got the turbo with our taxes! I'll be selling somethings (hopefully) to cover what I now can't pay off on the CC. I'm not sure when it will be here, but I'm excited. I like suprising him. Just hope it is the one he wanted and not just a random one he was looking at! Eeekk! I was talking to him yesterday about what all we would have to fix/adjust/replace before he could buy the turbo and it sounds like that will be almost as spendy as the turbo! haha There are a bunch of small things that should be replaced while we have things taken apart, other wise we'll just be yanking the engine out again in a few months. Can't wait for it to get it so I can wrap it in whatever random gift wrap I can find! I think I have some brown stuff with fishing poles or something fish related all over it! LoL
Would you be excited to get a? unexpected turbo? Or do you think it was too big a leap, since I'm not sure if he actually wanted this one!

Did you give him the turbo yet?

If I remeber correctly, he doesn't have a WRX right? If that is true he'll need quite a bit more in order to even put the turbo on the car.

I'm still waiting for it to show up! I got the invoice today though! LoL
He has an RS2.5, so there will be a bunch more to do before we can install it.
I did a little research and also picked up some STi pistons and rings, a fuels line spliter and I can't remember now! haha Trying to keep quiet about it I didn't write anything down, I deleted history and all that adn now I can't even remeber what all I got, though I know he'll still need to get a few more things before he can put it on.
But he better not complain, how many wives/gfs will buy their husband a $4,500 turbo (granted on sale) and a good $700 in extras to make it work in his car? Not many! haha
He also has a leaky head gaket, or that is what we are thinking it is that he needs to get replaced ASAP!

 I'd deal with the headgasket before you think about buying more "mod" parts.

He keeps saying he's going to do it, but something always comes up. Like my car needing belts and a clutch. But my car has now been taken apart, waiting on parts, since Sun and he hasn't done anything to get or replace his headgasket. I'm giving him until Friday and then I'm going to buy it myself, park his car in the shop and tell him he better fix it before I try and really f*k things up! I've even had his friend and my mechanic cousin tell him to take care of it, NOW! But he's a man and can't be told what to do. I'm kind of hoping knowing he now has the turbo (when it gets here, hopefully tomorrow) that he'll get on the ball and deal with it.
If he doens't, then I'll send it back and spend the 5g's on MY car!

you spent 4500 on a turbo? No offense, but you might be better off on just getting a WRX engine and swapping that in. Would make things a hell of a lot easier and cheaper. Especially once your soon to be boosted RS engine blows up.

What year is the RS? How many miles on the engine? Unless it's one of the newer EJ25 engines (say, '02+), the internals really weren't designed for much extra power, and would need more than just pistons. You're going to want to do a full rebuild on the engine as well. New exhaust setup of course.

Either way, that engine really wasn't built for all that much more power, and as someone once said to me, once you've got it all built up, it'll probably make about 165 hp less than the original motor once the new built one blows up.

For what it's worth, my two cents, go buy yourself a WRX engine with low miles. A new ECU, a nice tune, and you've got yourself one bitchin little grocery getting machine.

What monstrosity of a turbo did you buy for 4 and a half grand? ON SALE? Not even the DOM 4XTRs are that pricey from the factory... goodness! You could have gotten an STI longblock for that price.

And before he/you install anything, replace the headgasket. Blown motor waiting to happen and then all that money goes bye bye.

It's a full kit, not just the turbo. It is made for his car. http://www.rallitek.com/avo25tukitwi.html
The list of extras includes but not limited to:
STi pistons and rods
rod and main bearings
Spec 2+ clutch

I should have writen all down! haha anyways.

The long term plans are not to make a nice little grocery getter. Next Spring we are stripping it down to make it track material, not a street legal track car either.

I did find out from him today that he has ordered STi headgaskets, so that will be replaces very soon. He says they should arrive tomorrow. :-)

Wow, I got a little snappy there! Sorry, someone was trying to read over my shoulder and pissing me off! Trying to ruin the suprise! Grrr

Anyways, turbo kit has came and he is stocked! Of course he listed of a ton more he will need to make it work without blow the motor or tranny. So we still have some time before we actually install it. Hopefully not to long though, I want it in before the winter, don't want to be adjusting my driving during a snow storm! LoL

If he's looking for other parts, my hubby has almost an entire wrx motor that has been dissasembled w/ bare heads, and also quite a few stock STi parts... Im sure he'll give you a good deal... PM me if interested in any :)

If you look on some of the other forums in the for sale section I'm sure they could help you find some things.

I'd look into another engine, but just my 2 cents.

Yeah the RS 2.5 from the late 1990ies is a fairly fragile thing. The Phase II is better, but still not a great motor to choose to turbocharge. I would recommend limiting boost to no more than 9 PSI. Good luck with the kit.

Better options might have been an EJ22T, or basically pretty much any USDM WRX or STi motor. These are motors that were designed and built with turbochargers in mind.

Subiectuie, I'll let him know and send you a PM if needed. Thanks
buniboo, he's always on rs25 looking for things and I think he'll be on more often now! He's also slipped on SLCSubaru a few times looking for things, since I've found it. There is one other forum he's on a lot looking for things.

Jonathan, he has an early 2000 model, I have a late 90's. He has a 2001, not much different than the 90's but not exactly the same. He also planned on no more than 5-6PSI with this motor/turbo. He does plan on a full engine swap next spring when he starts his real project on the car, but still wants to have fun until then. At which time he's going to look into putting the turbo with very low PSI into my car. Or sell it to my cousin as he's starting to build his own car. I'm thinking the latter, since I'll be getting a new car anyways and I'm looking at a WRX.

He got right to business looking up mor einfo about the turbo as well as problems other's have had with it and how to keep their problems from happening to his car. So hopefully he will get it right and not f*k things up before we want to start the strip down! haha
