View Full Version : 2011 WRX goes Widebody

Since the introduction of the third-generation Impreza, Subaru has been making incremental improvements to the rally-bred WRX, first with a significant bump in output for the 2009 MY and now the adoption of the STI's widebody design for 2011. And not only does the five-door model benefit from its pumped-up sibling's sheetmetal, but the sedan gets a much-needed testosterone injection to boot.
With a 1.5 inch-wider track front and rear, the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX's stance is decidedly more aggressive, and with firmer rear subframe bushings pulled from the STI and wider 17x8-inch wheels wrapped in 235/45R17 rubber, the 2011 'Rex is assuredly stickier than its predecessor.
The cosmetic mods don't end with the widened fenders, as the front fascia receives a restylized front lip spoiler, partnered with a larger, blacked-out grille and intakes. The whole package only increases the curb weight of the WRX by 34 pounds, and coupled with the "265-horsepower" turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four, the 2011 WRX has the goods to back up its looks... no matter which body-style you choose. Ya know in all honesty I hate the new body styles too...
The reason I got one is because I wanted a WRX reaaaally bad but I wanted low mileage. More of a practicality thing. I figured I could deal with the ugliness so long as everything was nice & new & clean.
I'm determined to make my sedan look better though... I'm getting new fenders, full body kit, CF hood... and I'm gonna try a crazy custom job, modifying a bugeye rex wing to fit my trunk.
Gonna be awhile, but I haz goals :lol:

I'm probly gonna get flamed for this but i never have and never will buy a subaru for it's looks....it's been the ugliest breed of car i've ever seen...:devil: i just use him for his insides. (my car's name is Gunther), he's too ballsy of a car to be a girl :p

I never see much difference with these sedans, they all look like ecoboxes with a lot of accessories to me.

of the newer models, I think the wide body is an improvement for the sedan. The only reason I'd want the hatch is to tote my dogs around.. otherwise I'm sedan all the way.
Recently picked up a 2007 forester xt limited because I just couldn't get into anything 08+.. I figured when the 216a comes out I'll might be ready for my 4th subie.

i was going to get into a newer WRX but when i saw them they reminded me of hyundais... they look so poorly constructed. (sorry for anyone who owns one...) maybe if i drove one and was inside of one i could get into it more. and i agree, the hatches are horrid, i dont like hatches to begin with but sadly enough, they look more appealing to me than the newer WRXs

After seeing the newest pics on forums... I definitely dig the new body style of the sedans. And I loOoOove that purple.
I've always hated hatches and wagons, but the 2011 sedan = hawt! (in my opinion) Specially with the wing brought back.
It definitely needs springs (LoL)... Other than that, I love it.

I feel like the more I look at this picture - it isnt growing on me at all. Maybe in person it looks better - I just feel like I've seen this car before?? I guess when we get one in I will have to check it out. But for now I'll stick with my hatch :)

That makes the girl who loves all things purple inside of me scream for jump and joy! Finally a purple car! And its a subie to boot.
