Danskin Triathlon (http://www.danskintriathlon.net/)

They have it in Webster, MA each year. It's a sprint triathlon (1/2 Mile Swim, 12 Mile Bike, 3.1 Mile Run) that raises money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

I don't plan on doing it to raise money (entry fees go toward the fundraiser too). I've been interested in doing a triathlon and I figure this event is mostly woman and it's for a good cause. They don't have a date yet but it's usually at the end of the summer (if I remember correctly).

I originally wanted to do a triathlon as a relay team (some members do certain parts of the race). But I'd also be up for someone just to join the race with me for moral support.

For a sprint triathlon I've found 8 week training schedules with something to do every day.

Anyone interested?

I'm a very strong swimmer, I'm good on a bike although I don't have one the only thing is the running would be the hardest part for me but - I would be down to do this with you!

I used to be a fish and took YMCA summer camp swim lessons (not like those are too for serious) but I figured with practice and maybe one formal lesson I could be a strong swimmer. Bikes hurt my butt but I'm going to look into getting a used road bike (let me know if you want to go with me to the pre-owned sale at end of april) and I HATE hate HATE hate HATE hate HATE running. But I figure I could train for 3 miles and survive.

Cool!

Anyone else?

I'll go with you to the sale. Biking hurts my butt too because my butt is toooo big! (lol) I also hate, hate, hate running - but like you said its only 3 miles - I guess it wont kill me.

This does sound like a nice idea. I am NOT a strong swimmer at all, I would be bertter suited for biking and running, since Ive been training at the gym on the bike & treadmill for the last few weeks. Knowing myself, I wouldnt be able to do all 3, but the relay sounds like something I could be a part of. I could always be usefull for moral support if needed as well.... We'll have to wait for more info, but as soon as they provide that let me know! :)

They do group training about $300... isnt bad at all...

Good find Monica. That gives us a little time to decide if we'd want to sign up for group training. I work on Wednesday nights so I'd be missing out on group workouts... although I am looking to change my work schedule for that day...

Also, I found out that with triathlon swimming, the strategy is to use arms only so that you "save your legs" for the biking and running. I was freaking out just hearing about it. I'm going to have to start pumping some iron. HAHAHA.
