A scam artist screwed with the wrong forum. After paying for parts they didn't receive, members of the North American Subaru (http://jalopnik.com/tag/subaru/) Impreza Owners Club collected evidence on the guilty party, managed to discover his real identity, then alerted police.

The sting was lead by NASIOC member Team Scream, who collected evidence from several victims, traced the perp's ID back through local chapters then presented police in Dalles, Oregon with a ready made case. Two days ago, he received this email from a detective there: "I wanted to let you know that I have arrested and charged [Redacted] in relation to this case. He was charged with two counts ID Theft, one count of Theft 1, and Computer Crime. All of these are felonies in Oregon. He will most likely be going to prison for a period of time based on his past criminal convictions. He was using Riggs name without his knowledge. If you want to pass this on to the other victims in this case, by all means do so. If you have any questions feel free to call or e-mail. Thanks for your assistance."
Go forum, go!

Isn't Internet justice sweet?

i was actually looking at a product that scam artist was selling one day on nasioc (i think he was trying to sell the same turbo to like 3 different people)... i'm glad they finally did something about him. they had a whole thread dedicated to bringing this guy down somewhere... i think it was in the scammers section... but it's possible it was moved for legal reasons. either way, glad they got the guy.

NE1 wanna buy a bridge ?

This is a joke. I have no bridge. Nor do I wish to collect money from those who might think I have a bridge for sale.

Dibs on said bridge...

We had the same story on iic. There was speculation whether it was the same scammer that tried to fool some of our members.

I remember seeing a thread on iclub about a scammer on a mazda forum who was selling parts and only accepting paypal and then never sent out the parts, but then ended up killing his gf and wound up in jail. Crazy world out there...
