So, I was going to do a walkthrough on a STS, but the one I ordered and the one I got didn't exactly jive. The one I got was too small so it didn't fit into the basket (of course I couldn't find this out beforehand, no, I had to get it all apart THEN find out when I try to install it!) :( But, once I get the right one in, I will have a totally different post here!

Let me just say, doing this for the first time was reallllly hard considering I have no background what-so-ever. In the meantime, if you're changing it out on a Legacy, I might be able to answer your questions!

Usually have to grind the mat plate to get those to fit. :) Just make sure you get nice bushings because those make the world of difference.

mine actually fit fine!! i ended up getting a kart boy shifter which we were surprised we didn't have to trim the plate. we did get bushings for it but it didn't seem to make too much of a difference. after the first time i drove the car, it felt wayyy different but then i got used to it so quickly that it doesn't feel short anymore

oh ya, i should probably mention, they had sent us a wrx short shifter, not a legacy one which is why it didn't fit. they didn't carry the short shifter for my car anymore so they ended up have to upgrade to a kart boy.

Just don't read the above with your mind in the gutter.:devil:

Yeah you won't notice the bushing much unless you put some miles on the car. The rubber bushing that go in the car are garbage. They usually go out around 20,000 miles and there is sort of like stretch feeling when you pull back on the shifter. Poly bushings are really nice. The only thing I don't like about my metal knob is in the winter it gets so cold. I usually have to wear one glove on my right hand until I can warm it up. Now that I bought a house and a garage I'm not complaining anymore.
