And I'm actually excited about it! We are going to be buying a house! In order to afford the closing costs and down payment all work on the cars is coming to a stop. I was looking at buying a hood with a scoop and a trunk lid with spoiler and possibly seats and bumpers for the L and he was looking for WRX seats for the RS, now that it has the turbo he wants more comfy seats as we'll be driving it more often. But all that is on the back burner now. Never thought I'd be happy to not be working on the cars, but I am! I'm still going to be lurking, checking out the member's rides and all the great info on installing this and that, but might not be posting for awhile.

Well, it was kind of a "We can agree to stop working on the cars and buy a house together or I will do it myself, I can't live with your Mother any longer!" haha He made the right choice! Thank goodness! haha

Yeah, it was kind of fast, except I have been looking at houses for 3 years! haha It has taken that long to convince him we needed to get out on our own and to find one he was ok with and in a good area.
After finding this house it didn't take long to get him excited and the paperwork filled out! Still waiting to hear from the seller though, I hate this part!

CONGRATS!!!! we have had ours for a year this month. It is fun I loved picking out paint, it is true when they say you are never really done with the projects you always find something new to change. :) Ours started with paint then redoing the kitchen and doing a Doc Seuss mural in my sons room (all hand done LONG process) the redoing the whole garage, and now we are in the process of redoing the basement :) you get a bug to just change it and make it yours :) Have fun!!!

@ megadeth2118's_wife, it has a garage, but it is tiny. I think it having a garage was the deal sealer for Eric though, none of the other palces in our price range had them. He already has plans to put a hoist in! haha He found a brand new one in his Dad's shop, which will be missed as it is HUGE, like 3 cars deep with 3 bay doors, each bay able to fit 2 cars wide. That will be his first project. Even though it is small we have room to expand it in three directions, though one will cut into my veggie garden! And that will not be happen. LoL
@ TI07STI, this is his first house and my second. With my 1st it was just like you said, we started with a new roof, I didn't like the color of the shigles. Then the exterior (it was, kid you not, smurf blue!), then we wanted to expand the livingroom, but after removing drywall (which was in need of repair anyways) we found the house was built out of railroad ties, it was not being expanded! haha But we found a window they covered when they added stairs to the basement and made a cool niche out of it. It was never ending, paint in all the rooms, a cool jungle scene in the nursery (a last minute change since I had different plans for the room before finding out baby was coming! haha),, new carpet, I could go on and on! Worst part when I finally moved out they still weren't finished! haha
And we already have tons of plans for this one! His garage plans, I'm sure he'll decide to expained it sooner then he said he would. The carpet is burgandy in all but one room where it is dark blue, that will all be coming out to give new life to the covered up hardwood. They had started painting, but it needs finished. Some areas of the yard need help, like the cacti that I know me and the boys will fall into many times if it is not removed ASAP! So far that is what I am limiting myself to as we don't have a ton of cash to work with and I want to be able to save some for cars! haha
Now to wait to hear that it really is ours! I hate this part the most!

Im sure all will go well and you will be starting your projects :) I can totally understand the whole wanting money to spend on cars. my husbands show car is a 94 ford probe he bought his turbo before we were married sept.08 and he didnt drive it until we moved in april 09 and it has sat torn apart in our garage since especially now since we have been working with the STI. It is nice but i do feel bad the he still has a long way to go with his car. :(

Oh, I'm about to lose it! haha We were supposed to hear form the sellers bank yesterday and guess what, didn't hear a thing! The person over the seel is on vacation so we are dealing with her fill-in and she seems clueless! I'm trying to be patient, hoping we hear something next week. But ours is a short sale, which is anything but short and I knew that going in.
That's awesome you founf one with a huge garage and basement. Ours doesn't have a absement, just a nasty crawl space that I will not be going in! haha I would have liked a basement, but I'm done being picky! I found one he liked (due to the garage, even if it is small) so I am sticking with it!
Hope you hear something about the house you put an offer on soon. Waiting after making an offer is worse than the looking! haha

are you guys trying to go for the tax credit? we had to stay away from short sales because of that :( we found a couple we LOVED but they do take forever. do yout hink they call it a short sale to be ironic? haha we were both reallllllly picky but we found a common ground so we're sticking to it, too!
good luck with yours, hope you don't have to wait to much longer (i know one girl who took probably close to 6 months then walked away)

They call it a short sale because the bank is getting shorted on the cost of the house. Short sale is the middle ground a bank takes with the owner of the hosue before losing even more in a forclosure. I always thought it was irnoic also.
We are going for the tax credit, and as long as we're in contract before the end of April we'll get it even if we don't officially close for months. That's one reason I'm so impatient, they have to agree to sell to use before April 30th or we lose out.
My 1st house was a short sale also. Took us from May-Oct to finally get the deal sealed and the keys. It was insane! But for a short sale it was actually quick. We went back and forth on the price and repairs before we came to an agreement. They had the house for sale for 5 years and no one wanted it so they were really looking to get rid of it. And we won big time, a small 3 bedroom with a nice yard for $52,000. I was willing to take the long road!
Same with this place it has appraised for $25,000 more than what they were asking. We would almost be better off flipping it and walking away with the extra money! haha Except the fact that we need a place to live!

the closing has to be before the beginning of june. and even if you did flip it, it has to be your primary residence for 3 years or else you have to pay back the tax credit. i say, live in it for 3 years, fix it up then look for something better. that way, you don't have to fix it all at once! i really hope you're able to close in time for the tax credit... we're still deciding if we want to go through with our offer, we're both realllllly nervous... this is the biggest financial decision we've ever had to make and it's nerve racking!

Hmmm, I'll have to talk to my realtor, she said as long as we were in contract by the end of April we would get the credit. Don't want to be worng and miss it! I would not be happy!
As for the flipping, with our laon we can't flip anyways. So that really isn't an option, even though I have always wanted to and it would be fun!
It is very nerve racking, but once it's over and you have your own house it will be so worth all the stress! Trust me. With my first house every time I thought about it I thought I would puke I was so nervous! This time I'm fine, but Eric is the one freaking out! LoL
