I'm starting my search for an 06/07 Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

- Reasonable miles
- Aftermarket parts not a "must"
- I'd prefer a Pearl white. But... beggers can't be choosers, right? (Haha)

If anyone knows anyone who is selling theirs and or catches one for sale at a dealer in the NH, MA area.
Email me!!! Rgray03@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Rach

Check this out! I all ready put the search criteria in for you, but I recommend sticking with an 06 (if possible) because I heard there were some issues w/ the engines in the 07's.... (2 of Dan's friends alone had 07 STi's with engine problems). But that's just my 2 cents and you never know, you could find an 07 that is perfectly fine :)

Too bad you live too far away, I'm considering trading mine in for a '10 SE STI or waiting for the 2011 to come out...

Any luck finding a car?

I pretty much look daily at every website known to man, Lol. Nothing yet that's not high miles, within my price range, or even a price range I could talk down the price to what I want. No if's, and's, or but's... I'm finding one this summer!

This may be too far but Annapolis Subaru (MD) has a 2007 STI that has about 60,000 milesish

The only issue with the 07's is that if you plan on adding an exhaust, dp or anything else performance than you would need to get it protuned. Most people don't tune even after an exhaust swap and ends up messing with their engine/comp. I have an 07 and never had any issues with it.

My preference would be to find one local (within New England), so that I can test drive it.

And I'd like to get an aftermarket exhaust, and a couple other additions over time. But, if there's a risk for issues then I'm searching for an 06. Last thing I want to deal with is car problems, considering this will be my daily driver.

I have heard that there were a lot of issues with the 07's mapping, it was more laid back than previous years and a lot of people have had issues with them. People bought the 07 expecting it to be a rocket ship & were not as happy with it as they expected. I have not owned an 07so I can't say for sure of course, but thats the info passed on to me by our friend who owns a performance shop. People say the same thing about the 08's - there is a huge diff between the 08 & 09 mapping. Having owned both I can say there is a huge diff with those - the 08 feels sleepy compared to the 09. Hope that helps a little...good luck with your search & again I am certainly not an expert - just trying to spread the random knowledge I collected!

Do you know any local tuners/shops? If you do you should go consult with them before making a decision about it.

There is an 06 Black on Gold STi (http://patrickmotors.com/subaru/detailviewused.asp?make=Subaru&model=Impreza%20WRX%20STi&Id=106&backtype=Used) at Patrick Motors in Shrewsbury. I work there in the phone/internet department. PM me if you're interested.

I currently own a black Subaru... and am going to avoid that color unfortunately.

actually i heard the complete opposite and that this issue was on the 06's. (have a few friends with 06's)

something about how they weren't really designed to be having parts swapped in and out and that you have to tune it after any major performance upgrade to really use it for its purpose. and that subaru like most generations use the first year to experiment with.. and use the following years to trouble shoot and fix those issues.
(like say most people say the 05's performance and modding capabilities are much better then the 04's.... 03 wrx's are better then the 02's ectectect)

Are there any websites that have info other than the basic about STi's.... I've searched an haven't found much. (Kinda looking for something like Pro/Con's.)
Word of mouth about cars tends to lead me to just find out for myself... haha. Bec it involves of "personal opinion" - of course.

Any and all suggestions/ideas!!!

STi Pros
Good handling
Symmetrical AWD
Awesome chassis
Motors are easy to work on(oil/filter/ w/e change)
Lots of after market parts
Interior is superior to the EVO I think (Although the evo has some sweet seats but that's dealer order)
6speed transmission is one of a kind :p

STi Cons

Strut clunk, I received this in both cars WRX and sti, prepare to buy coil overs at 30-40K miles
Ring land failures do to bad tune, make sure you get it tune (COBB ap or pro)
Other than those things I haven't had issues on a stock ride. Once you start modding of course you'll run into complications but hopefully you plan a budget for it.

The 07 STi is the blacksheep of the subaru community. Please do not buy one without doing you due diligence in checking it out. That year had the most fragile motor and ecu tune.

Your work on the car should include:

An independent compression test
Vehicle service history report
Vehicle reflash history from dealer
An immediate independent pro-tune of a tuner versed in 2007 STi's

Or save yourself the headache and purchase an 06.

^Kraig - Where did you come from? And no one wants to be like you with your 07 STi that needed a new engine right after you bought it. :p

Just kidding. I like it now that it's fixored/tuned.

Damn, I should have checked this thread earlier for this useful info... :P From what it sounds like I'm staying away from 07's... Last thing I need is my daily driving breaking down on me.

I don't know of any "local shops" in the area. I'm already pre-approved from my bank, just attempting to have a buyer for my car too...
But am waiting til I find white... I'm not giving up hope!!! Lol.
