I wouldn't start on that if I were you- that thing must be a monster. I have a little girl bike with training wheels- not really but its a Suzuki GS500.

I took the MSF basic and advanced riding class- I suggest to anyone looking to start to ride (safely)!

My sister's first bike was a 2000 CBR 600RR. And I agree, it's def. a big girls bike. I'll eventually take the course and buy a starter bike (which are also much less money).

Yeah I "stop and dropped" my first bike 3 or 4 times- so something you don't care about messing up is better than going down with it!

What she said...

Sarah, as you know I have been riding since I was 16 and honestly a 600 would be fine to start on. Any bike can be dangerous, it is what you make of it. A 500 is ok to start on but after about 2 months you will be sick of it and want something bigger.

Of course any bike is dangerous, but it's about taking the steps to minimize risk.

The longer someone's been riding, the more they forget what it's like to first ride a bike on the street... or accidentally goose the throttle.

I'd say that if you get "bored" with a bike, you are riding it wrong. You might get "bored" with how fast you can go from 0-60... or 80, or 100... but you can't get bored with carving curves. Which you can do on any bike, but can actually do with some good confidence on a bike that is appropriate to your skill level.

To relate it to a Subie board... Anyone can drive an STI, right? But would I give a new driver the keys to one? Probably not. They're still learning and picking up skills of the road... throw in a car with capabilities beyond their skills and it's a recipe for disaster. Not to say it's IMPOSSIBLE, but it's not ideal.

When you're riding a motorcycle, there's a lot of stuff to take in and evaluate... why not give your mind a rest w/o having to worry, "Easy on the throttle, easy on the throttle, easy on the throttle..."

+1

I started on a 500 and it was so much fun to learn on. After a week of riding it, i jumped on my friends CBR600RR, thought i knew what i was doing. I put the thing down within twenty minutes. It was a totally different animal.

A new rider should start on something smaller and work their way up. The best thing about the smaller bikes is that they have great resale. The Ninja250 is the best selling bike that Kawasaki makes.

If you are going to buy a bike, any bike, ... you really NEED to do a motorcycle safety course. RSBlood (Matt) was very lucky to just be covered with road rash.. even still it took him ~ 1 week to get out of the hospital, and roughly a month to recover. Yeah, he wasn't dressed up properly and he was inexperienced as well... he just had the misfortune to wipe-out on some sand.

When a car and a motorcycle collide the car usually wins... taking a safety course will train you on how to do proper evasive actions and ultimately how to avoid becoming a "road pizza".

Understand having a bike is a wonderfull thing... you just need to know how vulnerable you are out there and how to keep you and your bike in one piece.

Hey that bike looks familiar! lol

Cool bike, but I also think it's way too much for a first bike. Better to practice on your sister's before you wreck your own. Maybe she won't mind you learning on it considering how many times its been crashed. Hey I asked and it worked, lol... never got to ride that bike, even though I bought another helmet.

Her and I are friends now. If I took the class and asked nice she might let me use it here and there. Prob not though. I don't let her drive my car so I don't think she'll let me ride her bike.

I'm afraid to get a bullet bike. I would probably hurt my self. Maybe I will get a Kawasaki Ninja. lol

the new ninja 250 are pretty clean and the nice thing about them is that they are cheap, not as powerful as the 600's + and they look pretty close to a 600+

Hahaha ya that is the appeal. Start off with slower power then move up as I get more comfortable riding a bike. =P
