I'm working on determining how this will be available. I would like it to be something that is earned. Part of the Subie Girl/Subie Girls Supporter recognition. I'll try to sit down soon so I can work out the tiers and post for everyone. Thanks for keeping me on my toes. :)

earning it is a pretty cool idea, but sometimes forums look cleaner without wacky avatar pictures of hotdogs or ice swans

another thing some forums use is the reputation system. could always do that, but sometimes that turns into a big circle jerk of people negative repping people theydon't like "just because"

NES has an "avatar of the week" and if you join avatar of the week, you get a misc. avatar given to you each week in a theme that's chosen. I like that idea, but it's too much for me to do right now. If Hayley, Megs or Sylvine wanted to be in charge of it, I'd be more than happy to start something like that.

Avatars are about customizing your profile and/or presence on the forum. I do think a ranking system would be cool like the one found on www.powderroom.net (all girl snowboarding forum) but I don't think its something that should have to be earned. The purpose of this site is to Educate. Encourage. Empower. which doesn't require you to post 20 times a day. So having your individuality depend on how many times you post a day or how many threads you start might not be the best way to go about things. Just my opinion though and personal experience through co-hosting a forum (www.subiepdx.com/forum)

So part of it is posting on the forum and contributing to the online community. Another way will be to plan meets, attend meets, plan fundraisers and participate in fundraisers. Posting 20 times a day won't get you an avatar, but being active helps.

Users should be able to upload and use any avatar that they want. Having a ranking system would be cool as I noted above, But...choosing someones avatar for them is limiting a persons individuality.

i agree, i think it should be by choice, how ever you can start a thread on suggested avatar of the week. I know that goes over well..

like having sesame street week and you can pick the character that best suits you etc.

I'm not dictating, Mikey. We're a democracy and as a group the girls who helped to build this website agreed on this. If the girls wish to discuss this issue again, we can have another meeting and look at the pros and cons. I think that we've offered some decent alternatives.

I knew it was a gay idea from the beginning.
Going to reiterate: Avatars should be chosen individually. Not to be picked from a choice of 5.
All in favor of being able to upload your own personal avatar please opt to use no avatar on the site until we are able to show our individuality.

alright - so here's the deal. We have plans for avatars. We want avatars to be a privilege for those who spend the time promoting SubieGirls.com and participating in Subiegirls activities.

Obviously since we are still in the fledglings of membership, these things are not fleshed out or put in place since we don't necessarily have the infastructure.

We are not trying to cull people's individuality, but we wanted to make sure people could express themselves through their profiles and profile pics.

As a rule, any admins of Subiegirls.com do NOT have custom avatars because of these things.

Avatars and signatures are gay. I dont want to see the same picture of someones ricebox every time they post. I turn them off on every forum i'm on. Everyone who is with me protest by not using an avatar. ;)

We're not asking you to stop by a meet in New England. We're looking for positive girls who want to meet other girls with similar interests. There just so happens to be another girl on here into Subarus from WA. Have either of you contacted each other on here? Have either of you thought about looking for other girls in your region to have a meet of your own? THAT is what we are trying to promote and encourage.

Our first meet consisted of 4 girls. That was almost 3 years ago and we've done nothing but grow from there. And, we did it without this website and without avatars. We networked through other websites and stopped to talk to girls we bumped into on the road.

Please feel free to express yourself through posts, pictures of your car/self, your profile and more!

Thank you to those who have shared their want for their own avatar and to those who don't care either way. We now have a general consensus of what you're looking for, which will only help us to make a brand new website grow.
