Hey girls,

I am thinking about painting my stock wheels this summer, but I need some clarification! I want to possibly paint them black with a blue lip because my car is world rally blue (unless you have a better suggestion for the color).

I was reading some of the other threads and understand that I will need a primer, sand paper, simple green, and index cards. What kind of primer and sand paper should I use? Will I need acetone? How do I paint the lip? How long does the process take? and do you recommend any websites that perhaps show me how to paint them step by step because I have never done this before haha

The 4th post in this thread (http://www.subiegirls.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442) has helpful links that include product to buy.

I used two different grit sandpapers but some recommend just using the fine sandpaper.

The process I used is also in the thread above. If you spend ALL day doing this process you could probably do it in a weekend. I did it over a couple weeks. Sanding the wheels sucked and I was in no mindset to spend all day doing it. The painting I did over 2 nights, it was super easy and fun. I think I let them sit for 24 hours before putting them on the car.

As for the lip, I think the easiest way to do it would be to primer, paint the blue, tape off what you want to stay blue, paint the black and then paint the clear coat.

Just finished painting new wheels for my BF's legacy daily driver! We used steel wool to remove and glossyness, then painted them. No primer used. They turned out great!! I've heard some people use primer and some dont...

That's interesting. Do you have pictures to post? Yeah it seems like there is no right way to do it. Everyone has a different opinion as to what kind of paint to use etc. I am glad his wheels came out nice.

Thanx!! Ill see if I can take some pics!! We used the steel wool because its more flexible and can get the glossyness out of all the little grooves...
