NorCal recommendations?

i will be flying up to stockton this weekend and driving down from stockton to san diego (approx. 8 hrs drive). will stop by fresno for a bit to visit my relatives there. other than that, goal is to go home and not bake in the hot sun since it's been hot recently.

any recommendations on sight seeing spots or where i should stop by on the way back home?

I liked the Getty Museum (http://www.getty.edu/) in LA. Free to get in, great views/outdoor garden and parking is only $10.

i woulda stopped in Santa Barbara's state street, SLO for some wine, and malibu for some nice canyons
